Full-Stack Web Developer + SaaS founder Building Sentinel (uptime monitoring) 15+ years web dev

I’ve spent the last year building Sentinel because I think “is it down?” should be answered before your customers have to ask. It started as uptime monitoring. It’s turned into something much bigger.

The last of Sentinel's PHP monitoring edges went dark today. All six regions now run on a single Go process each. The old edges were 16 GB servers running 50+ Horizon workers. The new probes use about 27 MB of RAM and hold a tighter 30-second cadence. @laravel still decides what every result means. Go just does the checking. Full write-up: sentinel.rootstuff.io/blog/l…

I’ll believe SaaS is dead when you show me one person without a subscription.

London and Chicago are live. Sentinel now checks every site from 6 regions on every plan. Not “check from one place, then confirm somewhere else if it fails.” Every region. Every check. 14 is the goal. sentinel.rootstuff.io

Agents can now pay a person to go film a place for them. 🤯 @vangrid_io lets an agent post a bounty ($50–$5,000 USDC, escrowed). Someone walks the site with a phone, and the footage comes back with an on-chain stamp of when and where. Coverage queries are $0.01 over x402 on Base or Arc. No account. No API key. “Things agents can’t see” just became a physical location. Sentinel is watching the endpoint from all regions. sentinel.rootstuff.io/agents…

🎉 Sentinel is going from 4 monitoring regions to 14 worldwide. Chicago + London launch tomorrow. Next: Toronto, Tokyo, Mumbai, Sydney, São Paulo, Dubai, Johannesburg + Lagos. 🌎 Every region. Every check. Every plan. And the wild part: 14 regions will cost about half what the original 4 did. Global monitoring shouldn’t be an enterprise feature. sentinel.rootstuff.io

Agents can hit a Base RPC or a headless Chromium browser for the same $0.005. @POKTnetwork’s Agentic Portal puts 115 services behind one machine-payable endpoint. No account. No API key. Pay with x402 on Base or MPP on Tempo. Sentinel is seeing a valid 402 from four regions. sentinel.rootstuff.io/agents…

The barrier to entry has been completely obliterated. The willingness to cross it is still the moat.

Discovered Go this week. Apparently servers are allowed to have RAM left over.

I’m testing something new with Sentinel: connecting a server to its MCP server over a secure tunnel. Not SSH. Read-only to start. The interesting part isn’t asking AI to grep a log. It’s giving the same agent that saw the site go down access to the server that might explain why.

So it turns out that a perfectly healthy site can be blocked by corporate firewalls simply because the domain hasn’t been categorized yet. Just when you think you’ve seen it all… 🤦‍♂️

Put my frontend assets in a tarball last night and shaved 10 minutes off Sentinel’s production deployment. 🤐 Sometimes the best optimization is just moving fewer files.

An uptime monitor that rhymes with Phluptyme Schmobot just tried to upsell me on SMS credits. Oh wait… Sentinel already includes SMS alerts in the US and Canada with every paid plan. Or you can just use Telegram for free :) sentinel.rootstuff.io/pricin…

Two new Sentinel users after a DevOps team spent 30 days trying it. I’ll take that kind of validation over a signup any day.
