Sold off 1/3 of our tax work in December, most all of our tax only engagements. Has been a huge relief for our team and yours truly. Heck I have been able to play pickleball 2 nights in a row…in April! definitely not a thing in 2024. #TaxTwitter

@taxtwitter how? Referred to a biz owner/friend of the family. Their accountant is retiring. Does 1040 prep, 1120s, biweekly payroll, monthly accounting. I check qb file to do fee quote…uh they paid accountant $2200 last year for all of this?!?? How?

I awarded this one tool of the year last year Seriously if you're using QBO there's no reason for your entire team to not to be using at least the free version of RightTool 👇
RightTool and your journal entry Excel import and your check register Excel import, you make the world a better place. You've saved me about 10,000 hours this year. QBO users, if you aren't using RightTool, just get it.

We filed extensions for 100% of PTEs 2/1. Just filed 10 more today…new entities discovered from current clients and one client bringing 4 new to us from another that failed to tell them about PTET last year and we did on the one entity we handled for them. #TaxTwitter

#TaxTwitter these new small business retirement plan credits are not insignificant…and I continue to find new layers…✅learned this week can take credits on plans in place before 2023✅learned the formula is taxpayer friendly in that even in year 5 can get $5k/ee

Corrections…$1k/ee in year 5….and this is all specific to contribution credit

Got a nice mental health 24 miles in on the bike today with a great friend . Somehow we got behind on our PTEs so I’ve been playing catch up. Ahead on 1040s though! #TaxTwitter

Am I the only one that just despises taking over a new client that records their credit card charges when they pay the card, dated on the payment date, rather than recording charges by vendor as incurred? Extra frowns when inherited from a prior BK firm. #TaxTwitter

Back from skiing, what did I miss? Mid-season break so refreshing, now ready to ROLL! Our biz return to prep pile is at about 80% in the door. #TaxTwitter

#Taxtwitter what would U do? New client. 2 owner s-corp. owner 1 was bought out Feb’23. 1.1368-1(g) elect in sale. In past they allocated profit via EOY bonus to get to 50/50 profit. Did not do that end of short period. Seller’s “share” of profit in 2 mos $0. 1/2

2/2. Remaining s/h “share” was $100k. Cash basis for tax. Would u a) hard cutoff 2/28, too bad for seller? B) pull some expenses into short period to get seller to his “share”?
