In 1991, Patrick Stewart surprised STAR TREK creator Gene Roddenberry with a song and dance routine on the USS Enterprise-D bridge. The footage was never meant for public viewing, but eventually surfaced as a Season 5 DVD bonus feature.

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

Everyone talked about how the NHL’s “Hot for Hockey” campaign fell flat. But few explored why.
So I went straight to the community the league was trying to reach: BookTok.
What I found was a much bigger conversation about hockey, romance and the NHL’s approach to female fans.

Excited to share this new initiative from the NHL I’ve been working on, magazine-style pieces with in-depth interviews and styled shoots.
The first one dropped today, with Macklin Celebrini, Matthew Schaefer and Cole Caufield ushering in the new style:

As we await another Slam final in which Alexander Zverev is the favorite to win, I’m thinking about the collective blind eye the tennis world continues to turn to the domestic violence allegations against him.
A few months ago, I wrote about how those allegations have—and, perhaps more notably, haven’t—affected his sponsorships. 🔗 ⬇️

Naomi Osaka’s latest walk-on look, by Thom Browne, was dreamed up with stylist Law Roach. Her rotating designer looks are reminiscent of Venus Williams bringing a roster of fashion brands to the US Open last year.

Aryna Sabalenka was not happy with a question she received during her U.S. Open press conference, ‘Think before you say stuff’
“How are you finding your mood now that the tournament has started? Obviously last week it’s lots of parties and fun and stuff like that..”
Aryna: “You guys are like a joke. Parties. Fun. Why would you even say that? Why would you even think about that? Like, what kind of question is that? Just because I posted some activities with brands and you think that I’ve been partying?”
“I’m not suggesting you were partying… I’m saying there are a lot of events and things like that. I’m not saying you go to the parties.”
Aryna: “You literally said that.”
“Excuse me? For everyone who’s unclear, I’m not suggesting that Aryna is having fun at these parties. I’m saying she makes a lot of appearances and there’s a lot to do.”
Aryna: “Mhmm. Okay.”
“Now that the tournaments started, do you find you’re getting quite serious and combative?”
Aryna: “Oh yeah, I wasn’t serious before that. Next question. Think before you say stuff.”

For creators, attending a Grand Slam can signal something beyond an interest in tennis; for brands, the appeal lies partly in associating themselves with that cachet. As more money flows into the space, the challenge is capitalizing on tennis’s cultural currency without diminishing what made that access desirable in the first place.
For @voguebusiness, I took a look inside tennis’s booming influencer economy. vogue.com/article/inside-ten…
