Must everything be copied?
What troubles me isn't only the borrowing. It's what's being lost on both sides. Every culture has their own rich traditions and their own ways of leading a wedding ceremony.
Each time you swap something out, you are erasing your culture with your own hands. From Gèlè to ìpèlé, abẹ̀bẹ̀, irùkẹ̀rẹ̀, now Alága and Ìdọ̀bálẹ̀. Where does it really end?
And instead of crediting the source, the next step is always co-ownership. “We call it this in our own language, you didn’t invent MC”.
In another generation, these wedding videos will be held up as proof by your children claiming you’ve never been to Lagos.
Putting this out now that Alága is a Yorùbá institution and practice. The Alága Ìdúró and Alága Ìjókòó guide the ceremony in our language, proverbs and protocol. It isn't a generic wedding MC role. We don’t want to hear stories later. Thanks.

Marrying a Yoruba man doesn’t make you a Yoruba woman. Get with the program please.
230k in 2012 is very crazy and outrageous.

Okay so federal government cannot adjust their fees to fit new realities but Peter Obi could do it in Anambra all the way back in 2012? Did he provide loan facicility for all the students who had to drop out because they couldn't afford 230k in 2012? I'm sure they would have appreciated that
you don’t understand it. you didn’t need loan to attend a federal university before tinubu. the highest amount i paid as tuition fee in unilag was 15k.
they increased the money to 200k+ then grant you loans to pay it off.
- cab fee went from 50 naira to 200 naira
- you can no longer eat with 500 naira
- every fun stuff students used to enjoy now cost serious money
don’t forget you will start paying back the loan when you should be enjoy your salary

An Ika woman stood up and made her position clear: “WE ARE IKAS! WE ARE NOT IBOS!”
Nigeria needs peace, mutual respect, and recognition of the identities of its many ethnic groups. Nobody should have to fight to preserve their own name, history, language, and cultural identity.
When some people are busy claiming Yorubaland, others are arguing over the identity and heritage of the Ika people. This constant struggle over who belongs to whom only creates unnecessary tension and division.
The Ika people have their own history, cultural identity, and traditions. Their identity deserves to be heard and respected, not dictated to them by outsiders.
Nigeria is a multiethnic country, not the property of any single ethnic group.
Whether Yoruba, Ika, Ibo, Edo, Urhobo, Itsekiri, or any other people, every community deserves the freedom to preserve its heritage and determine how it identifies itself.
We cannot preach unity while disrespecting the identities of others. Unity must be built on mutual respect, not ethnic domination.
Let the Ika people speak for the Ika people. Let the Yoruba speak for the Yoruba. Let every community's history be examined honestly, without forcing political or ethnic narratives onto others.
Nigeria needs peace. Respect other people's lands, histories, and identities. 🇳🇬

You're a very irresponsible man. This dude filmed himself destroying the president's campaign posters, posted it and tagged the DSS by himself.
Is that your definition of civility and weakness or you're planning to run a lawless government?
A good friend even advised him but the coconut head you replaced their God-given head with felt it was too strong to break
CIVILITY IS NOT WEAKNESS. ENOUGH OF THE HARASSMENT OF MY SUPPORTERS. RELEASE RILWAN OLAWALE NOW.
The continued intimidation and harassment of my supporters across the country, the latest being the case of Rilwan Olawale, is disturbing and unacceptable.
President Bola Tinubu has remained a huge beneficiary of our democracy and should not brazenly be destroying it by encouraging and facilitating violence.
Our campaign is peaceful and issue-driven, focused on offering Nigerians a credible alternative built on competence, accountability, justice, and compassion.
We have chosen the path of peace, not violence; persuasion, not intimidation. However, nobody should mistake our civility for weakness, our restraint for fear, or our commitment to peace for an absence of resolve. We will not be intimidated into silence, nor will we abandon Nigerians who believe in a New Nigeria that is possible and will be OK.
I therefore demand transparency regarding Rilwan Olawale’s arrest, his release, respect for his rights, and an end to politically motivated harassment. No government or political party has the right to deny Nigerians the freedom to support a candidate of their choice.
We will remain peaceful but resolute. We will not resort to violence, but we will stand firmly and lawfully against every attempt to undermine our democratic rights.
A New Nigeria is POssible and will be OK. -PO
When my school fees was 30k I still found it difficult to pay, income was just as low as the cost of living.
AGREED 👍
Ours also was increased, but then, when I was in 200L and our fee was still 127k, two of my guys still took LOA because they couldn’t afford to pay.
No matter how you want to put it, NELFUND loan relieved a lot of parents. Some parents have 3 to 4 children in UNI. They don’t have to worry about where the next tuition fee is coming from.
I’m not supporting TINUBU. I’m just saying he really made a great impact on education.
Students no longer have reasons to drop out now that the fee is even higher, but thousands of students still dropped out when it was affordable.
