A message to Andy Burnham: I know you took a private jet to Manchester last week to govern from No 10 Oop North.
But if you're feeling more cash-conscious, why not take the stuffy, dirty, delayed, crowded Avanti West Coast service from London.
I had the pleasure of sharing my journey with two strangers who slept across our shared table
Not very comfortable.
But being a man of the people you may enjoy it.
Or not
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Angela opposed HS2 to Manchester, which - despite it being labelled critical to avoid the collapse of classic lines and for economic growth- was scrapped by Rishi Sunak in 2023. Burnham has pledged to "revive" a high speed link as well as new rail across the North West.

Looking forward joining to @Mattallwright Show @JeremyVineOn5 . We’re talking taxing pensioners, doctors strikes and more. Do join the debate 12.50am @channel5_tv
Andy Burnham talking about re-adopting EU’s free movement rules. Does democracy mean nothing to the PM? The country voted to leave.
Though given Burnham’s strategic route to No. 10 came via tactical by-election no surprise really
Loved seeing Prince William on The Graham Norton Show. Wonder if Harry is now reflecting on whether this might have been better option than the Oprah interview. He could have told his story from the red chair… 😉
Hate this time of year when clocks go back and it starts getting dark by mid afternoon.
Surely time to rethink this.
Not least because being outdoors so important for mental and physical health, (not everyone can exercise before work)
Surely also impacts on shop footfall and means we spend more on lighting our homes.
Enough now. We’re not hedgehogs🦔
In my latest column for @JewishChron I write that the announcement of a public inquiry into the Heaton Park terrorist attack is very welcome
However its remit must be clear.
Of course to give answers to those families so grievously affected by the atrocity.
But also to deliver a concrete plan to tackle extremists with specific, enforceable recommendations.
And to show at its conclusion that things will be different and that there will be no wriggle room for the Government and associated agencies to kick the can down the road or hide in Never-never land promises 👇

Only one kind of stockpiling I’m doing today … portions of freshly made chicken soup for the freezer.
Mainly so that when I get that ‘“mum, I need some CS” call I’m ready 🍲
Though also tastes good in any emergency situation
Will be on @BBCRadio2 just after 12.30pm talking to @theJeremyVine about pedestrianising city centres
The government is telling us to stockpile food and water in case of emergencies yet won’t spend money on defence to protect the country. Am I missing something here?
When the world seems to be erupting into madness and hatred, I find this so comforting and uplifting. Thank you, Cliff, for reaching out to everyone and reminding us that it’s the simplest things in life that are the most beautiful.

Today, I was delighted to join @BBCWomansHour to discuss the review into antisemitism in schools and colleges in England, led by former Ofsted Chief Inspector Sir David Bell.
This was not a discussion about Israeli politics (although I firmly believe that schools should be places where fair and informed debate about any government is encouraged).
Rather, I spoke as a parent about Sir David’s recommendations for addressing the challenges Jewish children face, and the importance of building greater understanding to tackle antisemitism in our schools.
And yet since , this morning, the abusive responses on various platforms following what was a thoughtful, considered discussion, expertly chaired by @BBCNuala, has been shocking. And deeply depressing.
Jews are not objects of pity. We simply want to live peacefully, as part of the wider community. The last thing we want is to be singled out. But this review was necessary because Jewish children have become targets of hatred. Perhaps this is fuelled by events unfolding thousands of miles away. Or perhaps those events are being used to legitimise antisemitism that might otherwise remain unspoken.
Either way, if we are to live together with decency, respect and understanding, we must confront Jew hatred head-on. We must educate children and young people about antisemitism and the dangers of all forms of racism.
But here’s the irony: the toxic responses I’ve received came from adults not children.
And perhaps that’s the most depressing thing of all.
If this hatred is being passed down by older generations, what hope is there for our children? And I mean all our children- whatever star they were born under.

Sometimes I marvel at the unexpected direction a career can take.
Like finding myself debating the merits of schlocky romance novels and so-called ‘bonkbusters’ on today’s @JeremyVineOn5 as @theJeremyVine showcased ‘his’ glorious abs….
If you missed it, catch today’s episode on YouTube. You won’t be disappointed.
Looking forward to joining @MatthewStadlen and @margarethodge on today’s @JeremyVineOn5 . So much to discuss. Join debate @channel5_tv 9.15am

My piece in the Spectator - pointing out there is more to Jewish people than being painted as a group to be pitted because of spiralling hatred. Take Larry David or hot bowls of chicken soup for a start….
To paint us as a group to be pitied and reduce our collective character as nothing more than target practice for antisemitism is entirely misplaced. Since it is anathema to the reality of our noisy, maddening and richly diverse community.
Were we really a people of trembling knees and weak hearts, would someone like actress Sydney Sweeney even be contemplating joining our tribe?
Apparently, an intriguing possibility following reports this week that The Housemaid star is considering converting to Judaism amid her relationship with music manager-turned-media CEO Scooter Braun.
