To be yourself, in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else, is the greatest accomplishment.

Former special counsel Jack Smith was pressed by Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) on Tuesday during his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee about whether he attended a NBA game between the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors in Atlanta in early February 2024.
Smith said he “definitely did not go" to an Atlanta Hawks game. "I think you've already perjured yourself," Schitt said during the exchange, calling Smith a "total dirtbag."
Smith said he instead attended a Maryland-Iowa women’s basketball game to see Iowa star Caitlin Clark play. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) suggested Schmitt had confused the Iowa Hawkeyes with the Atlanta Hawks and said Smith deserved an apology.

A long clip but worth watching to see George Madgwick and his Reform cabal dismantled by Cllr Steve Pitt in Portsmouth, over their stance on the intimidation of the RNLI, the Coastguard, the violence towards the Police, and the impact of Brexit on border control.

Since its foundation in 1824 the bravery of Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers has saved more than 146,700 lives at sea.
Hundreds of those volunteers have died attempting to save others. They are the best of us.
Any person or organisation questioning their actions or loyalty to this country should be corrected and ostracised.

Banning trade with illegal Israeli settlements is a UK national consensus: supporting the ICJ is mainstream not extreme and is pro-peac3. Time to act in UK's national interest and with UK public opinion.

BREAKING: Twelve countries issued a joint statement announcing national bans on trade in goods from illegal Israeli settlements:
🇫🇷 France
🇬🇧 United Kingdom
🇨🇦 Canada
🇩🇰 Denmark
🇪🇸 Spain
🇫🇮 Finland
🇮🇪 Ireland
🇮🇸 Iceland
🇳🇴 Norway
🇵🇱 Poland
🇵🇹 Portugal
🇸🇪 Sweden
Macron, UK PM Burnham, and Canadian PM Carney agreed the situation is deteriorating with "unprecedented" settler violence and settlement expansion, specifically calling the E1 project "inadmissible."
They salute measures already taken by Ireland, Spain, Netherlands, Norway, and Belgium.
The statement demands Israel immediately stop settlement expansion, hold violent settlers accountable, and investigate allegations against Israeli forces.
They "firmly oppose any action resulting in the annexation of Palestinian lands or forced displacement."

I’ll keep saying this until somebody at @BBCNewsnight or anywhere else in the media will take it on board:
In order to summarily deport asylum seekers without addressing their protection claims trashing our country further by following Putin’s Russia out of the ECHR is not enough. Just as Brexit was not enough.
You’d have to also abandon the UN Refugee Convention, the Convention Against Torture, the Convention for the Elimination of Trafficking, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, just for a start.
The Tories are proposing (as are Reform of course) to make us a state outside the bounds of international law. This needs to be clarified.
Conservative Mims Davies humiliates herself repeatedly on Newsnight - it's so bad that even when Nick Watt politely explains Conservative policy to her, she doubles down on anti asylum seeker rhetoric demonstrating a complete lack of coherence and comprehension 🤦♂️
Victoria Derbyshire, "Why would leaving the ECHR mean the boats would stop?"
Mims Davies, "We could send people back within a week"
Victoria Derbyshire, "You're saying that anybody who arrives on a boat, because we've left the ECHR, you would be able to deport, someone who arrives on a Saturday, seven days later?"
Mims Davies, "That's what people want to see"
Victoria Derbyshire, "That's not what I'm asking. Is that what you're saying will happen?"
Mims Davies, "Yes.. We know there are safe third countries.. Because the problem sometimes is where you return them"
Victoria Derbyshire, "Would you return them to France?"
Mims Davies, "The reality is, where we can send them to the appropriate country, that is safe for them to do, they should go"
"We play by the rules, when we go to other countries, we, you know, do the right things"
"And there's a feeling in the country that anyone can come here and that it doesn't matter if you do the right things"
"We need people to feel that doing the right thing has value"
Nick Watt, "If you're going to deport people within a week you need a receiving country, and the chances of that being a European country if we are outside the ECHR is not particularly high"
"When countries talk about sending them to third countries, that usually just for processing. Whereas with Rwanda you'd go there forever, and there was only capacity for 150"
Mims Davies, "That was also an economic and trade deal, and way more than just that, and it was always undersold what it was actually was"
"Why are the EU looking at third countries, because they need the same"
Nick Watt, "That's for processing"
