too many people have forgotten about anne rice and her vendetta against fanfic writers. spec writer massacre was one of the biggest purges in β00, her team sending cease and desist letters to both the sites but also the authors.

It's absolutely wild to me that being anti-censorship has become so associated with being anti-progressive that progressives will bend over backwards to support censorship for optics. NO. Censorship is the absolute antithesis of progressivism. It is REgressive.
Fandom should've remained niche, the moment people started disagreeing with AO3's principal message of freedom of artistic expression and actually supported moral panic and pro-censorship stances was the moment we all should've locked down. Hard.

The Tumblr π½ ban that auto flagged anything flesh toned and people were getting warnings for posting photos of the desert and bananas, thousands and thousands of freelance artists losing their main income stream basically overnight, any queer related discourse being banned

It's extremely telling that the majority of the people I've seen celebrating censorship laws are minors.
They know nothing about the real world or how these laws play out in reality, they weren't even alive during the violent video game hysteria of the 2000s.
