You want to go live. But which platform do you choose? 👀 StreamYard. Restream. Riverside. OneStream. You’ve heard the names. Maybe you’ve even looked at a few. But you’re still wondering which one will do what YOU need.

Later today, I’ll share my first go at setting up and running a YouTube live stream with it. You’ll be able to follow the process from setting up the stream to finding the recording afterwards.

Hi 👋 I’m Ady. I #HelpWithDigital. I build the digital stuff that helps businesses grow.

They joined your community, lovely, but why would they come back? That’s what I asked my email subscribers this morning. People don’t return just because you’ve given them a login. They return because something useful happens when they’re there.

A weekly discussion. A chance to ask for help. People they enjoy talking to. I’d rather have 50 people coming back than 5,000 who joined once and disappeared. The member count tells you who signed up.

What happens afterwards tells you whether you’re building a community. What’s a group you keep coming back to, and why?

This is me at work. On a local bench. No laptop in sight. I’m collaborating with Celynn Morin over in France, and it still amazes me that I can do that while sitting here.

Technology gets plenty of criticism for the damage it can do. But sitting here, getting work done with someone in another country? This side of it is f*cking brilliant. There’s a little bit of tech with me, obviously. It’s what lets me leave the desk behind.

And honestly, I’m probably getting more done here than I would at home. Where do you go when you need to clear your head and get the ideas flowing? #HelpWithDigital #WorkplaceWellbeing #MentalWellbeing #SelfEmployed

Nobody wants to be the first person talking in an empty room. An online community can feel like that too. You join. Have a look around. Wonder whether your question is too obvious. Then leave without saying anything.

“What are you working on this week?” is easier than “Tell us everything about your business.” And a personal reply gives someone a reason to keep talking. You don’t need everyone posting on day one. Start by helping one person feel comfortable enough to join in.

What’s helped you feel welcome in a group? P.S. If you’re stuck for an icebreaker, ‘Why the spoons?’ is a fair question. 😁

This morning, I emailed my subscribers about something that puts people off running a community. Thinking they’ll have to create all the content. Another post. Another video. Another resource.

But some of the most useful things happen when members start talking to each other. Someone asks a question. Someone else shares what worked for them. Another person adds a different perspective.

Your job can be to start those conversations, introduce people and give them somewhere to share. What’s a question you could ask your community to get people talking? P.S. The mug needs no explanation. 😁
