If the worst does happen, I want you all to know that it has been an honour sharing this blighted hellsite with you.
May we meet again in a better place on the great Interwebs.
And I’ve heard people talking about staying and fighting, whatever that means, but I just want to impress upon you that we have very little power here.
I mean, yes you can make your voices heard, but I think we all know Mr. Muskrat only listens to his own ego.
Look at what he’s doing to the employees.
For all I know, he’ll start mass-banning LGBTQ+ accounts because of “activists driving away advertisers” or some shit.
Have a backup plan. Create redundancy. Keep your communities whole.
Listen.
He owns Twitter now.
I can’t stress this enough. His website, his rules.
You cannot, CANNOT, trust that your account will even be here tomorrow.
Places where one petulant white man can’t destroy or threaten the communities people have built on a whim.
And FWIW I’m not sure what will happen to Twitter in general, my friends. But I want you to prepare for the worst case scenario.
Perhaps that will make a comeback too. But I suspect the days of large centralized social networks, where algorithms drive what you see and connect with, are fading away.
People will search for networks that they can self-curate with ease.
I remember when Google Reader existed. It was a proto-network and it was incredible, having your friends be able to connect and discuss and share content using RSS feeds.
I want to make this prediction: people will move to controllable streams of connections. Private communities.
I think Discord will surge, as people form communities they have more control over.
RSS may make a comeback, or at least I hope it will.
Ok, I think I’m probably going to go dormant for a while, considering all of… *gestures at everything*
I’ve had good times on Twitter. But TBH my mental health has been pretty bad for some time and I can’t deal with a lot of anything on social media.
He isn’t just the clown, he’s the whole damn circus
Scoop from @alexeheath: it’ll be $20/mo to be verified, and if the team doesn’t ship in a week, they’re fired theverge.com/2022/10/30/2343…
