Congrats to @nicoleleejw (and other @ConfinementLab co-authors) on her main story coming out this month in @CellReports! Check out this thread if you’re interested in what Nicole discovered on the role #MechanicalMemory plays in facilitating cell migration in #confinement
#Preprint alert! Check out @ConfinementLab’s new research on the role of #mechanical #memory in potentiating confined migration: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Thank you to @ahcells and @nano_jenn from the National University of Singapore for great talks on their research in mechanobiology, cell migration, and tissue aging at our IBB seminars.

Excited to share our lab's new preprint led by Ting @huanting_ong introducing paired-surface spatial mechanomics!
We link nanoindentation stiffness maps with #SpatialTranscriptomics to connect local tissue mechanics with molecular state.

Bittersweet farewell hotpot dinner for Dr. @nicoleleejw , who is heading to @UniHeidelberg for a postdoc! @ConfinementLab will miss you! Viel Glück!
Also, since it didn't get selected but I really like the design from @ConfinementLab's Jennifer Marlena, here's our cover art! Bonus points if you can guess my favorite artist... #destijl
@nicoleleejw is defending her #PhD in a few weeks and will be on the #postdoc market, so get in touch with her if you are looking for an outstanding #mechanobiologist!
Just under a week left to submit an abstract for #ICMMB2026 in Singapore!
Huge congratulations to our Microfab MacGyver Gianluca Grenci for his new position at @UniPadova! As a result-@MBIsg is on the hunt for a new Microfab core facility head. Feel free to get in touch with me or Gianluca with questions! mbi.nus.edu.sg/jobs/seeking-…
First international @ConfinementLab retreat on the tropical island of Langkawi (aka Lab-kawi) is in the books! There was plenty to explore for the #beachcrew, #junglecrew, and #culturecrew! Want to join in on the fun as a PhD student or postdoc? Get in touch!
Congratulations to newly minted Dr. @LY_Sci, Ph.D. #3 from the @ConfinementLab, aka Dr. Kueh Auntie, for her successful defense! If you're wondering what #Kueh has to do with confinement, keep an eye out for Yixuan's upcoming paper!

This is a great opportunity to do undergraduate research, especially international students!!
Attention #undergrads! Interested in experiencing a summer of #mechanobiology research at @MBIsg ? Apply for our MUST program! We accept students from all around the world, so don't hesitate to reach out for more information!

Replying to @jess_kabigting
@jess_kabigting @Yusuke_Toyama @ahcells showed us the challenges of how immune cells are able to digest and clear large adipocytes (~100um) often found in aged tissue. Multiple smaller macrophages need to infiltrate an ECM shell to reach the dead adipocytes! #MBIMPG2025

How do cells remember their mechanical environment? Nicole Lee @ahcells @MBIsg identifies transcription factor NFATC2 as a key regulator of mechanical memory – a link between past stiffness and future behaviour such as enhanced migration through confined spaces. #MBIMPG2025

Day 1, done and dusted! But the party is just getting started with The Hawker Center Mentorship Night at three of Singapore’s most iconic hawker centers – ABC Brickworks, Lau Pa Sat and Newton Food Center. See you there! #MBIMPG2025

Big picture, we think that interfering with this mechanism to attenuate or even prevent cancer cell #migration in tight spaces holds translational potential. Another example of #confinement helping us gain a better understanding of cell biology in general!
Bonus- if you happen to be at the @MBIsg #MBIMPG2025 conference this week, @nicoleleejw will be giving a talk on her work TODAY at 5:00 PM!
