Someone that deserves appreciation is Mari's VA, Nana Kawaishi. This is not just her first main role, but her first role in general, afaik. And her voice is one of the things that made me love Mari my favorite. I hope this means a bright career for her in the future

*Obviously queerplatonic and other non-romantic forms of love exist and are super important but if that's the story you're telling you need to be super careful and clear about it. With Sayolara it felt like they tried to do multiple different things and ended up a bit muddled.

I'm still digesting it all. There's so much I do like. I do think her leaving makes sense, and she says she meant it when she said she wants to be with Mari. All of that is bittersweet but cohesive. Just... just... don't go out of your way to distinguish their love from romance.

I should say here that having watched it again, there is more ambiguity in what Luca than I realized. If you take away that implication it honestly makes a big difference for me. I just don't see how Lara could have that whole epiphany and then try to make things work with Luca.

feels like i'm on both sides of the spectrum when evaluating sayolara now that its over. its ending may be questionable at worst but I don't think it's horrendous enough to outright take away from the first 11.5 episodes. i also think its general craftsmanship is still masterful-
