Especially important to take a travel history for those presenting outside of endemic areas. Symptom onset may be delayed by weeks from exposure.
Five attendees of a California music festival contracted Valley fever after inhaling *Coccidioides* fungal spores. Given the attendance of over 20,000 people, more cases may emerge.
This respiratory illness can be severe 🫁

Late last year, @IDSAInfo wrote a letter to @ABIMcert asking for (very reasonable) changes in the recertification process:
-reduce $
-make process less onerous
-make it more relevant
The letter, now published @CIDJournal, is here.

We hope this data will help programs clarify the benefit/risk of Coccidioides prophylaxis as the range of this important endemic fungus continues to expand.
Huge credit to Laya Reddy (now @ @ScrippsHealth) for leading this fellowship project from start to finish. 💫 (5/5)
