Managing early career engineers is not the same as managing Sr. engineers. Early career engs need so much more & much tighter direction, mentorship, feedback and Q&A. Much of it at a very low level. Sr. Eng need prioritization, alignment and setting expectations at a high level.

Alternatively, I'd love your help if you could share this so I can get in front of other people who may need an experienced engineering leader. I've helped lead and train engineers and managers to develop and retain talent, ship product, achieve hiring goals...

good advice for anyone of any level, not just engineers.
1/ This week I wrote up a short guide for our engineering teams titled “how to ask for help”. This may seem obvious. It’s not. Here’s a quick thread with the key components:

My favorite web framework and it's not particularly close. I'll be spinning up a new project with this soon!
Phoenix 1.7.0-rc.0 is out! So much good stuff in this release – @tailwindcss by default, HTML-aware component system with compile-time checks, verified routes, and more! 👉phoenixframework.org/blog/ph…

A very cool app from a very kind and thoughtful founder. 💯
My Slack app, @kbclip_app , just launched on Product Hunt! It instantly generates rough docs, FAQs, notes and more from your natural Slack conversations. It’s perfect for people who don’t have a lot of time to make documentation. Please give it a look! producthunt.com/posts/kb-cli…

The difference between a ten year goal that you achieve and one you don’t is that after 12 months, the former has become a 9 or 9½ year goal. Progress matters, even if it feel glacial in the early days.

Weird Al was oddly a formative influence as a kid growing up in the eighties. Weird Al songs often went “viral” (in the school hallways sense) and myself and many others learned about music by looking for or coming across the parodied. I’m looking forward to the upcoming movie.

I've seen hundreds of bits of professional advice. Here's the one that had the biggest impact on me. When inviting someone to do something, be explicit about what's in it for them. If there's nothing in it for them, stop. Inviting them is disrespectful and wastes their time.
