At the same time, @ExportDevCanada's proprietary Canadian Economic Recovery Tracker, released monthly, showed significant progress as the third wave crested and public health measures eased. edc.ca/en/guide/edc-canadian…
"My message to businesses: In spite of the increase in currency, please – please – do not fail to be ready for the demand that is coming our way." - @ExportDevCanada's chief economist, @PeterGHallXIII this afternoon on BNN. bnnbloomberg.ca/video/loonie… #economy #cdnecon
Some other points in the interview:
- In normal times, a higher currency would hurt us, but these are extenuating circumstances.
- A lot of the U.S. stimulus is going to consumers, and it’s up to them where to spend their money.
Recovery is trending up again, according to @ExportDevCanada's Canadian Economic Tracker. This month's release shows the country is almost back to fall levels, a modest improvement over last month.
The recovery is buoyed by decreasing COVID cases in Canada, sustained strong performance in the financial markets.
Transportation and mobility, consumer sentiment, and spending and employment remained more or less stable.
