Omelas is a Puerto Rican cultural foundation that puts music at the centre of everything. So we wanted its type to reflect Puerto Rican creative culture too.
That could have been a problem. Until fairly recently Puerto Rico didn’t have a type foundry. Pedro Medina Leandry got fed up with that and started one — Pedroglifos.
For Omelas we worked with Pedroglifos on a custom cut of Sobria called Ondas. The Pedroglifos team describes it as “not quite sober, not quite adorned.” We liked how Ondas and her sister Sobria handle themselves and keep their composure. Plus, the team also kindly tweaked how the “O” displays for us. Nothing major (probably the kind of change only a designer would notice). That or the kind of crowd that treats listening to music as “a serious, shared and transformative act.”
Fun fact: Ondas means “waves” in Spanish. Fitting for a foundation that starts with listening.
Tree rings as a generative system. Each layer builds on the last to make organic forms that work across the brand. The concept's now in development using an image tool where the client controls colour, grain, scale and complexity, long after handover.
Only a few rings in.

Frontier AI companies have committed to giving outside evaluators employee-like access to training, evaluation and deployment. We're very excited about this. But its impact depends heavily on implementation.
Today we're sharing our principles for embedded evaluations. 🧵

Mark, by @colossusjeremy.
This is a story about the head of history's largest nonterritorial empire, who nonetheless remains a prisoner of his rivals. Has he finally found a way out?
The profile has been nearly a year in the making. Stern interviewed three dozen people, including Zuckerberg, his MMA coach, and his critics and competitors at the frontier AI labs. He spoke with his parents, Karen and Ed, and watched their son get punched in the face.
The story spans Meta HQ in Menlo Park, the Zuckerbergs' homes in Palo Alto and Lake Tahoe, and a party in a Manhattan warehouse with Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet. There is also a sneak peek of Aaron Sorkin's forthcoming sequel about Zuckerberg, sourced via a Hollywood fixer Stern first encountered in Russia.
The result is a profile unlike one you've read before.

Proud to have supported Pioneer at Astera -- Erika and her team are doing incredibly cool work
Today, Pioneer Labs is announcing our first step towards terraforming Mars. 🚀🌼
With equipment that fits in just a single rocket launch, we can convert Martian dirt, water, and air into enough building materials to construct a small city on Mars.
To do it, we made the first microbe for Mars. We found the best microbe on Earth and used evolution to teach it how to source all of its nutrients directly from Martian materials.
The first astronauts will be greeted with safe shelter already filled with water, oxygen, and rocket fuel for the return journey.
This is the first step toward using biology to make Mars a friendly place for life. It lets us live off the land and helps us build the next great frontier.
It's the first of five organisms we need to green Mars ⬇️

a tiny step for a tiny microbe, a big step toward terraforming Mars. Congrats @erika_alden_d & team.

The concept of terraforming Mars seemed like science fiction to me before I met @erika_alden_d. It has been a pleasure to support the @Pioneer__Labs team as they build the roadmap to achieve this ambitious goal, and then begin to execute on the hard science, step-by-step.

A brand system has to communicate what an organisation stands for, offering a basis of understanding that transcends industries or ecosystems.
In the @OxChinaPolicy brand identity meridian lines run pole to pole, dividing the globe into a grid we can all navigate by — among the oldest tools we have for placing ourselves in the world.
This formed our starting point for @OxChinaPolicy’s visual language: a set of lines that bend and regroup to form the logo, then extend outward into graphic elements, page structure and form the quiet underlying rhythm of the design language.

40 years of pushing the frontier of science and technology
In 1986, a group of scientists and futurists gathered to take seriously technologies most people considered science fiction: nanotechnology, machine intelligence, radical life extension, brain-computer interfaces.
Forty years later, these aren't fringe ideas. They're the research frontier.
This is a short film about Foresight. Where we've been, and where we're going.

Delighted to be supporting @leone_baron to launch Spark Grants -- small, fast cheques for new initiatives that spark local activation energy in the UK

How do you get brilliant people so excited by the future, they go and build it themselves?
Today I’m launching 'Spark Grants' - small, fast cheques for new initiatives that create local ‘activation energy’ across the UK - backed by @ukdynamism

If you know @WorksInProgMag digitally, you'll know them as utilitarian and (relatively) minimal.
We got the chance to flip that on it’s head for the inaugural two issues of their new print format. Our brief was the opposite of the website: layered, heavily ornamented and image-led, something new on every page turn. Portable - and beautiful - design.
The subject matter is often serious, but the design gets to have fun with it. A detail tucked into the margins here and there (a gargoyle on a cathedral, if you will).
The aim is that feeling of ideas clicking into place, each issue its own small universe inside a larger one. We also have it on good authority the next issue is dropping soon.
Thrilled to share that Fedrigoni picked us for this year’s 10th edition of @fedrigoni365 - where designers collaborate on to create the full calendar book.
We got given a number and a paper type to interpret. One clue: we really think we "ate" with this one.
You'll have to wait for the book to come out to see it in print.
Another And–Now tradition: a trip to our favourite ridiculous ice cream parlour.
@anyahindmarch's pop-up parlour is back in London, so we stopped by after the M.C. Escher exhibition.
Green Giant sweetcorn ice cream sounds criminal. It possibly is, but it's also delicious.

Latent-Y is now open to researchers worldwide.
Our first research cohort designed molecules that block ion channels, kill tumour cells, and target the malaria parasite where it cannot mutate away. Results, and how to get access, in the blog post.
Today we launch Latent-Y, our drug design agent. 250 designs free every day for any approved researcher.
We are also releasing the first lab results from researchers with early access: Ion channel inhibitors that work. CAR-T cells that kill tumour cells, now in vivo. Binders the malaria parasite cannot mutate away from.
