Gladly.
I’ve been reading my way through Paul Kingsnorth’s book ‘Against the Machine’ - a massive critique of modernity/digital culture. It’s had loads of reviews in both Christian/non-Christian media. Anyone come across the book/him much? I’m looking for a conversation partner….

The Bible doesn’t see the WORLD as simply a place or a passive location where we happen to live.
It’s something with magnetic power for your interest, affection, allegiance & even devotion. It’s after you, with all its distorted values. Watch out. It takes lives captive! 1Jn2

It’s lucky we have a famously competent state, a well-funded health service, & courts with plenty of time on their hands, or I’d be worrying that this is a terrible decision

Yes! Human rights have no more objective reality than, say, the Trinity. Both derive from the workings of Christian theology; and both, if they are to be believed in, require people to make a leap of faith.
Lots of criticism of this, and I’m no fan of his, but isn’t he pointing out from a different perspective @holland_tom’s point in Dominion?
What a fascinating episode. Listen to the end for Jenny’s story. Very thought-provoking.
History Maker: Why Tom Holland changed his mind about Christ
Episode 10 of the Surprising Rebirth podcast charts how the Christian story shaped us.
I hear from @holland_tom on why he changed his mind about Christianity, alongside thinkers, historians and converts on why atheist accounts of history often fail to explain why we believe in equality, dignity and human rights.

It’s often thought that we grow mature with age. No, we grow old with age.
Maturity comes with taking responsibility. You’re only young once but you can stay immature all your life.
Reading ‘The Holy Spirit: an introduction’ by @FredFredSanders What a gem! Particularly enjoying his exposition of our experience of the ‘deep things of God’ via Robert Rollock. Thanks

The pressure is off for all of us to make a name for ourselves. Jesus has made a name for us already.
Our culture: religion starts wars, foments oppression and restricts our self-expression.
Micah 4:1-5: the exaltation of the mountain of the Lord liberates, brings justice, banishes fear and heralds world peace.
