A brilliant day in #Wigan with Council & community leaders and the Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods.
Loads examples of community led & system enabled support for people to live well in their neighbourhood. #GMLiveWell #RadicalPlaceLeadership

‘Shifting from community engagement to community development.’ Yes!
Our mission is not to ‘engage’ people and communities in what matters to public institutions and services, it’s about being in neighbourhoods, listening to what what matters to local people and communities and supporting and resourcing their development. #GMLiveWell

✨@angelafell and @AlisonMc_F doing a brilliant double act sharing the secret sauce of their work in #Wigan, creating #GMLiveWell spaces and places that are community-led and system-enabled. ✨
“we strongly believe it is the sprawling networks of grassroots community development projects that are collectively owned and democratically organised that represent the alternative that’s needed at this critical time.”

We're excited to share Seeds of Our Future: a collective reflection born from forums, consultations, and sense-making sessions with GM SC partners across #GreaterManchester.
This isn't just a report, it's an exploration of what's possible when communities lead the way. ⤵️

Anyone else noticing the growth in ‘community development workers’
I once thought I could be a hairdresser, until I cut my friends hair…then I realised there was much more skill & experience required than I’d initially anticipated
Goodness, what a scary place this has become. When we have the owner protecting & working for misogynists, laying the blame for child sex offending cover ups at the door of one political party.
The cover up is beyond party politics.
Men and power are at the core.
Shame on you

Post-war council housing in #Wigan - slum clearance, new estates and high-rise. My new post examines the changing form and fortunes of the Lancashire town made famous by George Orwell.

Same with ‘community power’
It’s so irritating to see folk seeking ‘resource’ shift into spaces & shout louder & use their positional power over folk doing this work day in and day out in communities …
Most certainly H1 capture

I am an imperfect person in an imperfect world, just trying my best. But I’m surrounded by people who are bloody awesome. Like @angelafell & @GillWright3 who help steward the children’s desire for their own permanent Playbox
I’ll write it up fully soon, but this is me, arriving

They write wonderfully too; heart felt, reflective & authentic.

I’m thinking about how you host and welcome people in public space work.
(Adult) People come at you from all angles, with doubts, queries, anxieties, expectations as well as curiousity, judgement & hope of something interesting about to happen.
‘What is this?’ they wonder
