Bramble’s baby had only just been born, and the dairy industry had already marked him for death. A male calf can never make milk. To the industry, that makes his life unprofitable. Every year, tens of thousands of male calves born on British dairy farms are killed, some within hours of birth, others slaughtered for veal after months. We call his mum Bramble, but on the farm she's just a number on an ear tag. What happened to her and her son happens to mothers and calves on dairy farms across Britain every single day. Millions of pounds in Government payments still support dairy, while more and more of us are choosing plant-based milks. It’s time the Government caught up. Sign our petition for Bramble, her son and every calf like them, calling on the Government to shift subsidies from dairy to plant-based alternatives. Sign now: ae.onl/VCc6gy 💙 🐄

At 15 months old, Bramble is pregnant with her first calf. She was separated from her mother just hours after birth. Kept alone in a hutch for eight weeks. Then artificially inseminated into the same life as her mother. Bramble is a name we’ve given her, as each calf is cruelly reduced down to just a number on an ear tag, but her story is the reality for millions of calves on UK dairy farms. Together, we can change this reality for the generations to come. Monthly gifts power our work to end factory farming, and this month they can go even further. A generous supporter has pledged £41,000 to Animal Equality UK, on one condition: 120 new monthly donors by 31st October. Be one of the 120: ae.onl/26wDes 💙 🐄

📣 PROTEST AT PRET OFFICE On Wednesday, we went to the corporate office of @Pret. Pret execs promised to stop making money off of Frankenchickens. Animals who grow so enormously quickly they suffer from heart attacks, broken legs, and body burns. They’ve had eight years to act, but have failed to. And now they’ve pushed the deadline back to 2032, with no publicly detailed plan as to how they will make good on the already-once-broken promise. Millions of chickens cannot wait a moment longer. Hold Pret accountable. Join us in demanding that Pret publish a clear, public plan for how it will phase out Frankenchickens. ✍️ Sign now: ae.onl/9YqSDu

Pret promised to stop exploiting Frankenchickens by 2026. Chickens who grow so big, so fast, that their bones break and their hearts fail. Today, Pret has made ZERO progress on this promise and has kicked the can down the road to 2032. With no public roadmap, how can we trust it to finally make good on its already once abandoned promise? We’re demanding that Pret publish a plan that is public, detailed, and ambitious. It’s the very least chickens deserve. Hold Pret accountable - sign our petition to CEO Pano Christou: ae.onl/ExmOXW

💥CAMPAIGN LAUNCH On Wednesday 14th October, Animal Equality UK is launching a bold new campaign. A campaign for chickens, who are killed in their billions each year. Most of them will be Frankenchickens, who suffer from being bred to grow far too large, far too quickly. Many years ago, one company promised to stop profiting from Frankenchickens by 2026. But despite having years in which to achieve this goal, they have made zero progress. Join us in London on 14th October, to stand up for chickens and to hold those who abandon them accountable. ⛓️‍💥Register for our launch event: ae.onl/eMUJTY

Today, we made history for farmed fish. For the first time in England or Wales, Animal Equality activists and allies protested outside the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to demand legal protection for these often overlooked animals. Just days ago, we revealed in the Guardian that there has never been a single Government inspection at a farmed fish abattoir in England or Wales. Millions of fish are being slaughtered without specific legal protections or routine inspections. Our investigations have found fish suffocating on ice, being cut while conscious, being trodden on and being bludgeoned to death. Experts on the Animal Welfare Committee have been calling for slaughter laws for farmed fish for nearly 30 years. The Government has promised a public consultation and new legislation, but has still failed to act. Today, we called on Farming Minister Stephen Morgan to put an end to this regulatory blind spot. The Government has the power to protect farmed fish. It must act urgently. And until it does, we’ll keep showing up and building people power for change. ✉️ Email your MP today and ask them to act: ae.onl/dCxErn

Within hours of being born, this little calf - let's call her Bramble - will be taken from her mother. Her mother will call for her. For hours, sometimes days. Bramble will call back. They will almost certainly never see each other again. Bramble is a name we gave her, as she is reduced to solely a number by this industry. Nothing else about her story is invented. It happens on dairy farms across the UK every single day. A calf's first hours happen behind closed doors, where almost nobody sees them. It is only through investigations where people can see the reality that mother cows and calves are subjected to. That is made possible because supporters give every month. This October, a generous funder has pledged £41,000 to Animal Equality UK - but only if 120 people become new monthly donors. Be one of the 120🐮🤍 ae.onl/PGyw2R

‼️‼️Through a series of Freedom of Information requests, @animal_equality has discovered that there are no mandatory or routine inspections taking place in farmed fish slaughterhouses in England and Wales. Abigail Penny, our UK Executive Director, said: "Fish are thinking, feeling beings, capable of pain. For thirty years people in power have known that farmed fish need legal protection when they are slaughtered, yet for thirty years decision-makers have failed to act. It is a disgrace that not a single government agency will take responsibility for checking on their welfare at slaughter. This is a huge blindspot, and it leaves these animals all the more vulnerable behind closed doors." Exposés like this are only possible because of our generous supporters. We must continue to hold the animal agriculture industry accountable, help the animals trapped in the system, and ensure the Government introduces promised slaughter legislation urgently. From protesting outside to pushing for change inside, we're putting pressure on every front for farmed animals. While hundreds of us took to the streets of Brussels, demanding a ban on cages for hens and an end to the killing of day-old male chicks, our team was also inside the European Parliament, pushing MEPs to make sure closer UK–EU ties raise standards for farmed animals trapped in factory farms. On the streets and in the halls of Parliament, we show up wherever change for animals is decided. And change happens on our plates too. Leave animals off yours with simple, delicious plant-based recipes from Love Veg. 🌱 🔗 ae.onl/xbybny

📣 Dell didn’t expect this outside their conference! While attendees came to the Convention Centre Dublin to learn about AI, we alerted them to Dell’s Chief Supply Chain Officer, Kevin Brown, and his links to animal cruelty. Brown is also on the board of Kroger, which continues to confine millions of hens in cramped battery cages. Kroger promised to go cage-free by 2025, and then broke that promise. 📢 Add your voice, tag @DellTech and tell them to hold their own executive accountable.

Peter Singer encourages people to support Animal Equality an end animal agriculture. In an interview published in the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, influential philosopher and world-renowned animal ethics expert Peter Singer highlighted Animal Equality’s work to end industrial animal farming. He says that stopping our collective consumption of animal products and supporting organisations that defend animals are two of the most important actions we can take. Many of us who became involved in the movement to defend animals did so thanks to Peter Singer’s Animal Liberation. It means so much to us to have a figure like Peter Singer publicly support the work we do at Animal Equality✊💚
