ill never understand the whole "that can't air/make something like this today" thing
this show was constantly swimming in controversy when a new season came out, hell it got controversy when the first trailer came out lol
i love this show, but as more time goes on, the less i want it to come back
this show was so stylized and beautifully animated, the way the modern animation industry is rn, there's no way they'd give them the time nor budget to make something look this wonderful
show was sadly doomed to begin with because once daria ended, mtv just gave up on animation
shut down the in-house studio, outsourced production to various other studios and wiped all animation from the network by the end of 2003
- gen alpha, not gen z
- children's television is still alive, chidren's *cable* television however is dead
- there are plenty of guardrails for kids through stuff like disney+, netflix, pbs, etc, parents just don't want to parent
Someone should write about the death of children's and teen television. Unlike millennials, Gen Z. does not consume media in a clearly-sanctioned "children's network" such as Disney or Nickelodeon. Kids don't watch that anymore, and those networks have largely stopped producing new episodes of their shows.
They get their entertainment on streaming devices, Youtube, and social media, which have virtually no content guardrails. Young children are consuming extremely age inappropriate content with little oversight.
people are genuinely surprised that a show that looks like this is being watched by children?
- releases three pieces of live action media
- gets cancelled because then revived because it has the closest ratings to SpongeBob
- canceled theatrical film
- moves its production to Canada
the show that replaced fairly oddparents became fairly oddparents
no surprise tbh, modern day live-action content is more versatile, has more variety in genres/age demos and is more original/less revival IP driven
most animated content these days is new stuff from old IPs and is either targeted to grade schoolers or adults
Among adolescents and young adults, the demographic prefers live-action content (58%) slightly over animated content (42%).
