Dang. Not surprised at all, but dang all the same. Will hopefully be moving out by the time the next election comes up.
#SomersetWard is screwed. Another term of repellant Troster.
Now that Sutcliffe has his 2nd mandate, expect him to exercise his Mayor Strong powers more.
He’ll focus on consolidating control and swiftly implementing his priorities. Using his Strong Mayor authority over committees, Sutcliffe will likely strip the progressives of powerful portfolio chairs.
He’ll move from consensus to executive directions. He will now marginalize his detractors on council.
Troster is our albatross to wear around our necks.

Voted earlier in Ottawa centretown. I don't know if all progressive ridings are like this, where conservative voters don't do lawn signs (with few exceptions), or conversely, conservative ridings where progressives don't do lawn signs? Google tells me there is no research or data on lawn sign usage across partisan lines.
I also want data on the use of mailbox flyers vs. the door handle hangers. The latter are too aggressive for my liking. Where are the focus groups?
Anyway, very quiet at the voting venue. Hope the turnout is respectable.
The guy who told us we are an institutionally racist country made sure of it.
The Marek Grundza case here is so insane. He hit an injured police officer with his car and the judge gave him house arrest so he wouldn't be deported back to Czechia. It's clearly very important that Canada keeps all non-citizens who assault police officers.
Who even defends this? It's like a 90-10 issue and we let the 10 dictate policy. It's pathetic.
Trudeau made 860 Judicial appointments, which means we’ll have to get used to this pattern thestar.com/opinion/star-col…
Ah, twitter. Where if you call out an antisemitic dirtbag leftist for insinuating that rich Jews and Israel are undermining a Mayoral candidate's run, your post will be tagged as abuse and have limited visibility.
"Importantly, she does not hesitate to empathize with suffering, desperate people, whether here or abroad. I suspect much of the vitriol against her is because she calls a spade a spade, and I applaud her for it."
Not really calling a spade a spade here. Is this supposed to be a more subtle version of Sarbjit's post? Stick your chest out and say what you mean.
I'll be voting for Olivia Chow in Toronto's mayoral election tomorrow. I'm not a leftist or progressive, but i appreciate the work she's done to make the city better.
Crime is at its lowest in years, my kids love all the new parks that have been built, she pulled off a flawless World Cup...
Importantly, she does not hesitate to empathize with suffering, desperate people, whether here or abroad. I suspect much of the vitriol against her is because she calls a spade a spade, and I applaud her for it.
Too often this city alternates between clueless leftists and ruthless right wing opportunists. Olivia Chow is something different, more like the quiet, hardworking, competent families that make up the backbone of this city.
Grateful for boring elections in Canada.
Authoritarian horseshit but it's not Trump and it's coming from UK Labour so the Andrew Coynes of the world don't mind.
El-Sayed and other Democrats have been very comfortable pushing the line that spending on Israel is why America doesn't have nice things and that AIPAC controls Congress. Sadka isn't the problem here. He's not the one embracing Nazi tattoos and Piker.

An absolute CBC classic. Far-left extremism doesn't exist as long as you sweep it under the rug at every opportunity.
Disinfo propaganda outlet, taxpayer supported.
CBC quoted Lowan’s speech right up to the line that reveals the ideology—and then stopped
In their election-night write-up, CBC reported: “We may have a small caucus, but tonight we have inherited an enormous responsibility, and that is to hold a majority Conservative government to account.”
What she said next, according to the full transcript (and the video CBC itself posted):“We are the only party who is equipped to stand against the Conservatives and their existence.”
That is not “holding a government to account.” That is declaring the victorious party’s existence illegitimate. It is the language of elimination, not opposition
If a BC Conservative candidate had said the NDP or Greens needed to be opposed “and their existence,” it would have led every newscast, every panel, and every CBC segment for days. Instead, the line was edited out of the written coverage while the surrounding sentences were used to portray her as a responsible voice of accountability
This is not an oversight. CBC has the full speech on their website. They chose which sentences to quote and which to bury. Meanwhile, hosts and panels continue to treat the BC Conservatives as uniquely dangerous while soft-pedaling a 26-year-old party leader who just framed an entire party’s existence as the problem to be solved
Age is not a shield. “Movement building” is not a euphemism that erases the actual words. Selective quotation that stops one sentence before the most revealing line is not journalism—it is CBC narrative management
The video is on CBC’s own site. The transcript is public. The CBC omission is the story @brodiefenlon

After last night’s complete routing of British Columbia’s NDP social democratic government and election of the first Conservative government in BC in almost a century, I can only repeat what I wrote for Jacobin when the NDP eked out a victory 2 yrs ago: there needs to be an honest conversation about class dealignment as workers exit a Brahmin Left dominated by the professional classes and their sometimes anti-social interests.
This is a horribly bureaucratic statement. Who is signing off on this? Who is the audience? All I get out of it is that Canada and the UK couldn't agree on who would host the bank so we're going to have two similar entities. Great, thanks.

Happy for Selina too. Tossed under the bus by cowards.
I wonder how prevalent this sentiment is on the Left, in terms of failed harm reduction policies turning former supporters away. Also wonder about the generational divide and parents/non-parents.
As a lifelong NDP supporter who even worked with them in Canada’s Parliament in Ottawa, I am so glad the NDP no longer rule politics in British Columbia. As someone who has worked more than full-time on Vancouver’s tragic DTES for 10 years, I have witnessed first-hand their disastrous policies with hundreds of millions of dollars pouring into the neighbourhood every year to sustain the status quo, but no meaningful help available to those with serious mental health and addiction issues.
