Always fun to record a podcast with @bach_lennart, even more fun discussing an insightful paper about (cost-)efficiency of iron fertilization as a #carbonremoval approach, along with @veronicatamsitt and @wil_burns !
🎙️New episode with @bach_lennart and @veronicatamsitt on their recent paper about (cost-)efficiency of #OceanIronFertilization in the #SouthernOcean. Listen wherever you get your podcasts from: buzzsprout.com/2141111/14627…

Marine CO2 removal (mCDR) requires that CO2 "removed" from seawater is replaced with atmospheric CO2 after an mCDR operation. This air-sea CO2 transfer can take a long time, in the worst case centuries. How can we provide confidence that the air-sea CO2 influx has occurred? 🧵
MRV for ocean CO₂ removal (CDR) is hard because CO₂ equilibration takes months to years and occurs over large ocean regions. @bach_lennart, Phil Boyd, @mtyka and I suggest a “risk assessment for incomplete CO₂ equilibration” as a pragmatic way forward. aslopubs.onlinelibrary.wiley…

Ocean carbon removal is a hard topic to wrap your head around. It has all the jargon and in-group dynamics of CDR plus all the jargon and in-group dynamics of the oceanography/ocean conservation world, mixed together. My advice? Bookmark this report. carbon180.org/s/Carbon180-De…
