A new blog - pondering the reason for the cast-iron representation of an @OrdnanceSurvey Bench Mark within the @nationaltrust Museum of Iron site in Coalbrookdale, Telford

Attached is an extract of the reply from the OS in reference to my observation about the height of the Wrekin having different values within their Mapping App
Really happy that the issues in regards to the recorded elevation 'inconsistencies' are being addressed
Dear @OrdnanceSurvey, what's happened to the height of my local (& fav) hill - The Wrekin on your online maps? It's height ASL has been recorded as 407-m / 1335 ft for yonks.
But now, depending on which map its one of 407m, 404m, 1327ft or 1326 ft.
Yours, Concerned of Telford
7th Feb 1863 - the Illustrated London News carries a report of the find of a fossilised Sigillaria tree stump in Coalbrookdale
The same type of fossil was found in 1976 in Old Park & which now stands near to Priorslee Hall, the former HQ of Telford Development Corporation
A weekend walk on the Shropshire Way...

For #benchmarkmonday the C19th Cut Mark in the parish C18th Boundary Stone that sits next to the Portway on the Betchcott Hills in Shropshire
The Bench Mark dates from between 1883 - 1901 when it was recorded by the Ordnance Survey
The Boundary Stone is over 100-years older

The 2026 Wellington Walking Festival is taking place in September. For the third year I'll be leading a walk based around Ordnance Survey Bench Marks
This year's Bench Mark Walk is is centred on, up & around the Wrekin
For details on all the walks see > wellingtonwalkersarewelcome.…
Church Crawling and Bench Mark bagging mean that I spend alot of time looking at walls, which means that any help in deciphering the multitude of shapes on display is always welcomed...

This morning's Solistice Sunrise from atop of the Wrekin. It was stunning! The Toposcope provided some reflection photos of the rising sun; with an added bonus of spectacular natural reflection off mist lying over Telford viewed when walking through Heaven Gate
Balls to Telford
A blog on social and local history based around the tale of a destroyed Ordnance Survey Bench Mark

BARKSY - drawn by an unknown artist onto the exposed collar of a tree on the Cockshutt, Oakengates.
With a nod to the Street Artist, Midlands' Brewery (shame its not Banks), the tree's Cortex and some of the local wildlife.
A new blog - detailing the Deconstructed Ordnance Survey Bench Mark on the High Street Bridge in Coalport, Telford.

For #benchmarkmonday two for the price of one - Rivets within the towpath of @CanalRiverTrust Grand Union Canal between Cape Lock and Hatton Locks near Warwick. The Rivet at the Budbrooke Junction has lost its accompanying Pheon with the crumbling of the edge of the towpath
Accepted the opportunity for a late-morning slow amble along both sides of Sabrina's banks at Coalport.
Familiar stomping ground, but no less enjoyable because of that and maybe more so as the area is quiet with the Museums still closed
For #postboxsaturday the Victorian Pillar Box sited alongside St Peter's Chapel in Warwick. Cast in the shape of a Doric Column in 1856 by Smith & Hawkes of Birmingham

A new blog - this one discussing why the 255-metre Snedshill Tunnel of the C18th & C19th Shropshire Canal wasn't located where one of the newishly built housing estates in Telford might suggest

A new blog about a section of the 18th Century tub-boat Shropshire Canal that can still be found - nearly 200-years after it closed - in front of the Cockshutt, Oakengates in Telford next to the Silkin Way.
