Ben Affleck (Hollywood star & Artists Equity CEO) talks about how he fine-tunes open video models by unfreezing weights and trained only the last cinematic layer so a film crew can hit real production standards. for context, Ben Affleck founded InterPositive in 2022, a 16-person AI shop for film post and Netflix bought it in March 2026 for $587 mn in cash. He needed that model because public video models were trained on his peers' films, and he did not think that was a real business. So InterPositive raised money, shot its own dataset for 8 months on a controlled stage, and used it only as late-stage training. Each new film then trains a private model on its own dailies, so the production keeps the footage and the learning. That is the product Netflix paid $587 million for. ---- From "Bloomberg Live" YouTube channel, (link in comment)

Some of these shots from French avant-garde artist Jean Cocteau look modern even by 2026 standards. It’s hard to believe this film was released 76 years ago, back in 1950.

The audience that walked into the Werner Herzog Theater at the Telluride Film Festival on Sunday night didn’t know exactly what they’d be watching. The screening had been kept top secret all week. Many wondered if it could live up to all the hype. And honestly, even after it was revealed by Festival Director Julie Huntsinger that it was ‘You Can See Everything’—a top secret documentary about famed Theranos founder and felon Elizabeth Holmes, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim—some in the audience still weren’t sure if that was a big enough deal. But the 174-minute documentary—full of unexpected twists and turns and shocking reveals—was indeed worth the wait. Read more from VF’s @Beccamford: vanityfair.visitlink.me/0Lwm…

According to Wong Kar-Wai, "Chungking Express" (1994) and "Fallen Angels" (1995) should be considered as a single film which is 3 hours long and watched as a double bill. When he was asked, why he had made these two stories which have no relationship at all to each other and how he could connect them, he replied, "The main characters of 'Chungking Express' are not Fay Wang or Takashi Kaneshiro, but the city itself, the night and day of Hong Kong. 'Chungking Express' and 'Fallen Angels' together are the bright and dark of Hong Kong.” He further added, "I see the films as inter-reversible, the character of Fay Wang could be the character of Takashi in 'Fallen Angels'; Brigitte Lin in Chungking could be Leon Lai in 'Fallen Angels'. All of their characters are inter-reversible. Also, in Chungking we were shooting from a very long distance with long lenses, but the characters seem close to us." P.S: On this day, 31 years ago, "Fallen Angels" (1995) was released in Hong Kong.

Quentin Tarantino on the grave of Russian poet and writer Boris Pasternak in Peredelkino. In 2004, while attending the Moscow Film Festival, he requested a private visit to the grave. He lay on the ground, closed his eyes and spent about half an hour to an hour-and-a-half in silence. Tarantino is a huge admirer of Boris Pasternak and who knew his poems by heart.

The Night of the Hunter (1955) received a lukewarm reception, leading Charles Laughton to never direct again. Remarkably, the film has since become a touchstone for filmmakers like Spike Lee, Scorsese, Guillermo del Toro, David Lynch, and the Coens.
What movie went from being poorly received when it came out to being widely loved today?

“There is something that might be called cinematic beauty. It can only be expressed in a film, and it must be present in a film for that film to be a moving work. When it is very well expressed, one experiences a particularly deep emotion while watching that film. I believe it is this quality that draws people to come and see a film, and that it is the hope of attaining this quality that inspires the filmmaker to make his film in the first place. In other words, I believe that the essence of the cinema lies in cinematic beauty.” — Akira Kurosawa. 28 years ago today, we lost one of the giants of cinema.
