iOS shortcuts is a truly terrible programming environment. I was hoping the Siri AI capability to generate a shortcut would make it productive - NOPE. it doesn’t know how to use actions from 3rd party apps. It can’t be use to update/modify an existing shortcut. It’s a dead end.

the moat is literally just caring about your work and being proud of your output and holy shit it does not seem to apply to 99% of people

Really neat investigation in the practical choices we need to understand in an AI coding world. What do we think this does to frameworks and libraries long term? Less incentive -> less exploration -> less diversity -> ??
I had Claude Code build the same UI in 5 different stacks. React, Hotwire, Inertia+Vue, Inertia+React, and vanilla HTML/JS. Same spec, same features. The quality gap between frameworks was massive. Wrote up what happened and what I think it means for picking a stack in 2026. xitter.cf/SevenviewSteve/article…

All this attention on OpenClaw has made start asking a new question: Are “Apps” really the right container for software moving forward? What affordances could we gain (or lose) by shipping software that isn’t an app? Skills are testing the water, more exploration needed.

Chasing down a bug in a new codebase without AI just to feel something.

WRITING is still an incredible way to develop your thoughts. even if an LLM can write/summarize/structure a response, sometimes you just have to write it yourself to internalize ideas and remove unnecessary details. Bicycle for the mind.

“Software eng has changed, we’re orchestrating agentic tools in a development lifecycle” “English is the new programming language, we’re moving up a layer of abstraction” Ok I’m with you. But the inevitable next step: “Most devs don’t need to read the code” That one’s uncomfy

Claude Code resisting AGENTS.md is very annoying. Just standardize already.

The most valuable skill in software engineering is _thinking in systems_. That's not new. But with agentic coding as the new baseline, we have to shift and ask "which systems?" Is the project, the repo, and the org the right first order system (instructions, skills, prompts)?

Maybe instead of building new personal software that will eventually wither… We could help open source maintainers not burn out by pitching in on existing and under-resourced and important software. Just a thought. Bring the LLMs, just don’t cause more maintenance work.

I've never felt this much behind as a programmer. The profession is being dramatically refactored as the bits contributed by the programmer are increasingly sparse and between. I have a sense that I could be 10X more powerful if I just properly string together what has become available over the last ~year and a failure to claim the boost feels decidedly like skill issue. There's a new programmable layer of abstraction to master (in addition to the usual layers below) involving agents, subagents, their prompts, contexts, memory, modes, permissions, tools, plugins, skills, hooks, MCP, LSP, slash commands, workflows, IDE integrations, and a need to build an all-encompassing mental model for strengths and pitfalls of fundamentally stochastic, fallible, unintelligible and changing entities suddenly intermingled with what used to be good old fashioned engineering. Clearly some powerful alien tool was handed around except it comes with no manual and everyone has to figure out how to hold it and operate it, while the resulting magnitude 9 earthquake is rocking the profession. Roll up your sleeves to not fall behind.

What is this incredible lightness im feeling? Room to breath and to expand my mind? I closed a ton of tabs, windows, and apps. If you haven’t done it lately - i highly recommend.

If you’re a slovenly tab hoarder like me, do yourself a favor. In less than 15 mins you can parse it all out, ruthlessly close things you know won’t matter in a week, transcribe any real tasks you might care about into a real todo list. Saved tab groups are cool too (close em).

Love these devlog posts. Really peels the curtain back on how a technical architect views problems, gathers ideas, evaluates potential solutions, iterates and makes progress. It’s mentorship at a distance. Refreshing simple format.
Ghostty 👻 devlog video: I'm working on search! Here's 15 minutes of me explaining why it has taken so long, what is hard about it, the architecture we're going for, and the big progress I've made recently. Progress PR if you'd rather read stuff: github.com/ghostty-org/ghost…

AI made it cheap to generate code. Now the bottleneck is judgment. Taste is the differentiator. Great design will win.

the hottest, scarce, hirable skill in the age of AI just dropped: clarity of thought, esp in written comms remove the noise, ponder/iterate a bit before crafting (but not too much), adapt your message to resonate with the intended audience. that's how you'll stand out.
