End user compute is becoming a big counter balance to frontier models. Lots of advantages of having a really good, open weight model, locally on your device. Privacy, relevance, and context for a much lower cost (essentially free) when you don’t need frontier models capabilities.
Your calendar decisions are your priorities.
How to set an operational cadence that empowers your executives, keeps you informed, and aligns your impact.

You don't need a $4,000 Mac Studio or an uncapped enterprise API bill to run production AI agents. My entire home setup runs on an 8GB M2 Mac Mini for $40/month (two $20 consumer plans) and the free-tier of Google BigQuery.
Check it out.

My eyes were wet from start to finish. I thought of being little in a big world & watching my son's first tries at this mad game. ESPN's Open to the NHL season is beautiful. I didn't expect to cry today-this is stunning. There's nothing like this sport. We at ESPN love the sport as you do. ❤️ Enjoy.
It's hard to overstate how much I learned about running a software company while at Salesforce, but near the top of the list was alignment, communication, and V2MOM.
In an early-stage startup, pivoting weekly is agility. At 200 people, that exact same instinct becomes organizational whiplash.

My latest @FastCompany Executive Board article. A four-step transformational ROI framework to identify opportunities to have balance-sheet level impact with ROI. As is often the case, my thesis leans heavily on the theory of constraints and the learnings of my favorite business book, The Goal.

Real-life personal finance is 700 unstructured PDF statements across 11 institutions that don't talk to each other. Yes I have great advisors, but as a CEO I like to get my hands on the data.
Here’s how I built a private CFO agent to parse the mess, provide insights, and audit expenses under strict API cost guardrails.

In the early days, you survived because you were the ultimate generalist. But at scale, you start hiring world-class specialists—a seasoned CFO, a CRO who has built global quota systems, a GC who reads contracts in their sleep.
The second post in my “Scale Up CEO Scaffolding” series: Managing Experts and how to not be the bottleneck in your own company.

I’ve been the “professional CEO” four times — the person brought in when a founder either chooses not to make the leap to scaleup leadership, or tries and struggles. Founders reach out to me because of it, and I’ve noticed I end up sharing the same handful of concepts every time. That’s what this is: the scaffolding I keep drawing on the whiteboard for how a scaleup CEO actually operates, written down.

Should add, got inspired to write this stuff down after listening to @bhalligan's Long Strange Trip podcast, which is excellent

This one was fun. Using @antigravity in combo with local models 🤖 created a personalized fitness agent based on my gym, health data and DNA. Best part was all the confident assumptions AI is happy to make for lazy diet tracking. Read more here: andymacmillan.io/posts/a-fit…
Isn't this literally the business model for packaged software which FDEs are supposed to replace???
Forward-deployed engineers can make AI work for one customer. The real value comes when what they learn makes the product better for every customer that follows.

I get a lot more value pointing AI at the underlying data in my data warehouse than at the MCP endpoints for my apps. My (and your) salesforce / market / SAP data is not that artisanal. And it's a lot more interesting to look across all my data than just at one app.
My son was excited to see Celebrini on the NHL 27 cover. I told him there is one for every team, including my beloved Red Wings. #LGRW 😩 #altNHLcovers
🤖 Made with AI
Fascinating double standard between coding and prose. If WSJ.com devs use AI to write code, why not writers using AI for prose?
Agentic writing won't replace great writers, but it levels up the vast majority of us who have good points trapped in mediocre writing.
Building some useful, fun projects with @antigravity at home. Cool part of this one was making my old furnace "smart" without an expensive new thermostat (that my wife would hate). Optimized solar usage with AC. Learned quite a bit along the way.

I'm loving the $CRM "earnings call show" format. When I was a pubco CEO I felt the "earning call" format was very stale and odd it wasn't on video, well produced, etc. The questions from analysts were usually quite good; feels like we could have given that interaction a better, more consumable platform. Maybe this is it.
