Excited to share that our work on the DCBM (dual-compartment biochemical monitoring) platform normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) is now published in Nature Communications. @NaturePortfolio . rdcu.be/ftJnK
This platform enables real-time simultaneous analysis of perfusate and bile during NMP, giving us better tools to assess organ viability and support clinical decision-making for liver transplantation.
This was a strong partnership between @MayoClinic
and @TerasakiInst for Biomedical Innovation. Grateful for the close collaboration with Dr. Yangzhi Zhu, whose work with his team at Terasaki made this platform possible.
Thank you to Dr. @aqel_bashar , Chair of Transplant, and Dr. @MathurAmitK MD MS FACS MS FACS, Surgical Liver Director, for their guidance and support, and to all our co-authors who contributed to this work.
Looking forward to continuing this collaboration with Dr. Zhu and the Terasaki team as we push toward clinical translation. @ASTSChimera @MayoTransplant @MayoAZSurg @MCTransplntSurg

After years of diabetes complications, Steve Canzoneri developed kidney failure.
He received a transplant at Mayo Clinic in Arizona and became the first patient at Mayo Clinic to undergo a robotic pancreas-kidney transplant.

It has been an amazing transplant year at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.
We surpassed the volume of previous years. Our abdominal transplant programs completed milestones in liver (322), kidney (506), kidney/pancreas (52), and pancreas alone (2). New innovations abound - robotic kidney transplantation and living donation, machine perfusion of organs, advances in organ retrieval, transplant oncology, training and educational excellence, and research initiatives that will shape the future of transplantation.
Our programs have continued to provide our patients with excellence in clinical outcomes, hope, and unparalleled experience.
It is always gratifying to hear from patients that “it just works so well here at Mayo” which is a milestone in and of itself.
Our Arizona transplant teams performed a record 917 solid organ transplants in 2025. Another milestone that distinguishes us as a "Category One" transplant center. We honor all donors for their selfless gift.
