As an immigrant living in the US who also speaks Albanian in public, I can agree with this.

We follow the core essence of his epistemological, ontological, and ethical ideas as regards the three hypostases of One, Nous, and Psyche, the Forms/Ideas, the eternality of the soul, the goodness of integrative unity, the existence and nature of the Gods, and other such topics, not his personal beliefs.
Neoplatonism/Platonism isn’t a dogma where we just follow everything Plato says. It is a 1000+ year tradition that spans many philosophers from multiple continents and societies, including Aristotle and his politics, and, according to modern academics like Lloyd Gerson, is based on these core principles: anti-nominalism, anti-skepticism, and anti-mechanism, anti-materialism, anti-relativism.
Platonism is not just being like Plato or agreeing with him all the time.
Plato existed in a particular society and cultural context. We are allowed to disagree with some of his more cringe ethical teachings or opinions. We are not bound by any metric to follow them.
In the Platonic/Neoplatonic tradition, the Gods are of a different ontological/metaphysical status from humans. They simply cannot be compared to us. They are perfected persons who exist in total harmony and share their energies/powers, and their lower essences, in common.
