Such an irredeemable, smirking, prick. Swanning around on taxpayer’s money doing nothing but pontificating on matters which don’t concern him while driving a formerly great city into the dirt. Such a sign of the times that such low quality people can get so far.

There’s basically no price differentiation in the entire bottom half of the labour market and then people act surprised when gluts and shortages emerge. Obviously, when all jobs pay the same, people will choose between them based solely on factors like which jobs are nicer to do.
This is totally crazy if true. The median hourly pay for a 21 year old was £13.00 in 2025...

The screeching would be on a scale never before seen. I actually think volume matters here: there are so many things on this list the Bluesky-MSM complex would fly into a rage over they can’t possibly focus on it all.

I’ve spent three years engaged in long-running and surprisingly civil arguments on here over whether AI is a cause of civilisational collapse or merely a symptom. My view is that, just as AI prose and art could only possibly flourish in the context of a mass culture that was completely sclerotic and reduced to smashing tropes together, the sort of person who’d get an LLM to tell them three nice things about their own child or make a podcast about what their child had been up to to listen to on the way to work was fundamentally inhuman long before AI came along.

Reactionary colonels in the Home Counties who wrote to the newspapers half a century ago warning that the Labour Party were a bunch of lunatic Communists who would ruin the country are some of the most vindicated people in history.

Just once it’d be nice if our institutions, after posting something which invites deserved derision, didn’t get all huffy and complain that the derision itself is the problem.
Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has responded to the unacceptable online abuse directed at a Met officer who received an award at yesterday's annual Police Federation Conference. PC Fiona Shaik Umar was recognised for the outstanding contribution she has made for women in policing.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The vast majority of criticism was not because she is Muslim, but because she was not following very basic gun safety rules. Her finger was on the trigger and she pointed the barrel of the gun at a fellow officer. gunsafetyrules.nra.org hunter-ed.com/muzzleloader/s… x.com/BasilTheGreat/… x.com/WilkieisBack66… x.com/LozzaFox/statu…

Sigh.
Some chatter on social media would have you believe that crime is out of control. The facts tell a different story. As @frasernelson has shown in his Substack today: Violence is at its lowest level since the crime survey began in 1981. Robbery is at a record low. Crime, excluding fraud, is 78% down on its peak in 1995. And the stats show this Government is delivering on its promises too: Knife crime is down 11%. Knife murders are at their lowest level in 35 years. Thefts including phone snatching have fallen by 20% in the last year alone. But I know there is more that we must do, and we will: We’ve put more than 3,800 extra neighbourhood officers into roles, with named, contactable officers for every neighbourhood. We’re introducing the most significant reforms to policing in a generation. We are tackling rising rates of violence against women and girls through our landmark strategy. And we are tackling crimes like fraud, more prevalent in our increasingly online world, with £250 million directed to this challenge in our Fraud Strategy published this year.

It’s weird how the “global price” of gas is lower in countries that drill for it.

A British fund would (a) not be very large per capita; (b) have been pillaged by now; (c) if somehow not, have been commandeered for state-directed “investment”; or (d) even if we did limit it to foreign investment like Norway, have been captured for woke, terrible ROI rubbish.
The sovereign wealth fund obsession is a stupid meme and anyone who brings it up as either a plausible or desirable counterfactual to the circumstances we faced is an idiot.

One has to question, when tribunals are setting rents and salaries, exactly what sort of capitalist economy we’re running here.

"Not A Silver Bullet"-ism is why we got Nick Clegg blocking new nuclear power a decade and a half ago because it wouldn't pop into existence fully built three days later.

Classic example of a ‘you’ problem.
Loudly announcing that you're not taking a political position is itself a political position

If you find someone not taking a political position to be a political act, it’s because you experience a failure to endorse your own politics as a betrayal. That’s your problem not theirs.

Probably not a good thing that the actions of British governments 2010-2026 only actually make sense if you imagine that those governments hate us and want to destroy the country.
