although #DontLookUp is heavily satirical, i feel like if the world were actually ending, this is exactly how it would go, and that is both hilarious and terrifying

My dad passed away a month ago. He never fully understood what I was doing in grad school. I found this notebook a few days after he passed. He always cared and he was always trying to understand.

“They are criminalizing homelessness, instead of helping [us].” disappointed but not surprised that a predominantly white and liberal-identifying city like austin voted to reinstate camping bans instead of choosing to help unhoused people.
"Resources, resources, resources. That is the solution." Austin's ban on camping and panhandling in certain areas returns today. People experiencing homelessness in the city say they need assistance instead of tickets.

This video brings back teenage memories growing up in Haifa when flying the Palestinian flag was illegal. Protesters were criminally prosecuted and spent time in prison. Israel refers to it as the PLO flag (דגל אש״ף) and symbol of terrorism not of a nation or liberation movement.

This morning I'm thinking about how 99.9% of the U.S. still doesn't know that, after they killed Breonna Taylor, Louisville cops managed to get the City to increase their budget by $750,000 and to cut the public library budget by $775,000.

The senseless murder of George Floyd served as yet another reminder that we still have a long way to go to live up to our nation’s highest ideals. Justice has now been served, and we hope that this verdict will bring some measure of peace to the Floyd family and the community.

Remember: none of Chauvin’s colleagues turned him in. He murdered a man in broad daylight and we are here today because a brave Black girl named Darnella Frazier kept taping despite threats from the cops on the scene.

the police shot and killed a 15 year old Black girl in Columbus as the verdict was being read. She reportedly called them for help. this isn't a giant step anywhere
Today, a jury in Minnesota found former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin guilty of murdering George Floyd. The verdict is a step forward. And while nothing can ever bring George Floyd back, this can be a giant step forward on the march towards justice in America.

The St. Louis police chief's takeaway from this verdict is not that Derek Chauvin's actions were unwarranted and illegal, but rather that he should have checked for breathing or "readjusted his position" with his knee on George Floyd's neck
Below is a statement from @ChiefJohnHayden relative to today's #verdict

During #JimCrow there were actual sidewalk laws put in place to shame and dehumanized Black people. Sometimes I have to check the year... I don’t know if it’s 1921 or 2021 b/c apparently Black people still can’t walk on the sidewalk... #jonathanpentland is a racist!
Twitter, I’m told this super douche lives in The Summit in Columbia, South Carolina. If you recognize him, please DM me — I want to make sure the name I have is accurate before I blast it all over social media.

Walking while black. The kind of hate that our black skin attracts is absolutely ridiculous. There are so many #jonathanpentland’s in positions of power who abuse their authority and engage in white supremacy activities, just like this.
