Because it shows that women have been writing and publishing about their roles in war for centuries but because they were excluded from academia, they were ignored. IOW, their stories are *everywhere* if we know where to look and what to look for.

OTD, 1917, women suffrage workers marched in a New York parade; joined by wartime mothers, they knocked on doors reminding citizens of the women's patriotic war efforts and reminding men to vote for suffrage in the upcoming referedum.

I could get behind this theory...
La mitad de los libros que te "obligaron" a leer en la secundaria son en realidad espectaculares, solo que aún no tenías la madurez emocional para entenderlos.

In a normal society, this would be called the English department, but since English departments no longer teach literature, we now need a separate department to teach the Great Books. You can't make this stuff up.
Some higher-ed good news: Clemson is launching a new department based on the Great Books, with up to 120 scholarships a year and a Socratic tutor for each student. C. Bradley Thompson reports on The Lyceum—and on profs putting teaching first again: city-journal.org/article/cle…

i had a professor in undergrad who would brutalize your papers, often with a red pen for its obvious affective function, but it was always to the betterment of your essay! and as i’m grading now i really want to do that but i understand that im not the main grader rn

I'd dissuade people from getting a BA but certainly not a funded PhD in the humanities. I would (and have) suggested planning a career path that isn't academia though
Like, my profs in college in no way tried to dissuade me from pursuing a PhD in philosophy but even actively encouraged it, and this despite knowing the landscape concretely when I did not. This was, in hindsight, unethical and an abdication of one's responsibility as a mentor.

Yes. A million times, yes!
Lecture recordings devalue education by reinforcing the idea that lectures are just textbook-style content, and encourage students to make poor choices by giving them an inferior but easy option.

Seriously, reading a book a week for a subject was standard in virtually every literature degree in the English-speaking world for decades. Either the students have gotten stupid (they haven't) or the education system is failing our communities (hint: it's the second one)
