The future is TBD: 6 shifts for 2026 and the next 6 years

Last year I paid tribute to one of the guitar greats who left us too soon. Ace. This year, it’s a Picasso Pumpkin. 🎃 #Haloween
Fitness reboot is going well. 10 more lbs to go, but focused on preserving muscle naturally. No Pharma.
This was a great trip. I was invited to speak in Australia on the topic of social business during the early days of that business transformation. Somehow I figured out give a talk on a stage with a large audience for four hours.
Four hours.
It felt like doing performance art. But the benefit of writing and building your own slides means you know the content inside and out. I’ve never had anyone else write my content for me in all my years of public speaking.
But the true highlight of the trip?
Gavin Heaton came up with the brilliant idea of riding up the great ocean road up the coast just outside of Melbourne. This was an unforgettable ride. First time for me riding in the “wrong side” of the road on some challenging yet breathtaking roads that hugged the coastline and rose several hundred feet above sea level in some places.
Truly unforgettable. It was also my first time riding a Harley and I chose a Road King of all models. I was so hooked by the experience, that I sold my current bike and bought one shortly after this experience. At the end of our day mint ride, it was dark on the return and I realized I had forgot my prescription glasses which I need for clear night vision.
I’m not gonna lie—there were a few times I wasn’t sure I’d make it for not seeing as clearly as I needed to.
But I lived to tell the tale.
I also spent some time in Sydney as well doing the big sights there for a couple of days.
Unforgettable trip and one of my top experiences blending professional and personal adventure. It’s amazing how much you grow when you stretch yourself like this.
If it weren’t for social media, I’d forget all about the cool, crazy and challenging projects and companies I’ve worked with over the years…
Meeting The life sized Jack Link’s Sasquatch was definitely on the cool side.
Seven years ago at this time, I made one of my smartest life decisions in retrospect. I was approaching my 10 year anniversary at Edelman and that made me eligible for a month long sabbatical.
I asked if I could take my sabbatical in October instead of waiting until December. This was back in 2019, just months before the pandemic…
I plotted a two week solo road trip following historic Route 66 from Chicago to the Grand Canyon, visiting all of the iconic stops and hitting places like Santa Fe and Sedona along with others on the way.
It was my first solo long distance road trip and I didn’t know if I’d enjoy the time alone with my own thoughts…
I loved it all. I took epic pictures, journaled, drove all day, hiked, listened to audio books and good music and saw all kinds of amazing scenery that simply does not exist anywhere else in the world.
Had I waited until spring or summer, the pandemic would have ruined my solo adventure.
Sometimes, the universe lines up things just right for you. I only recently had the photo book made. It doesn’t fully capture the experience, but it’s a nice way to preserve the spirit.
After you hit a certain age, we all become survivors in life. I’m exceptionally active for my age despite having a hip full of titanium… (and another one on its way) I power through workouts despite arthritic stiffening in my hands… my blood labs are rebounding from lifestyle changes…
In a nutshell, our bodies may keep the score, but the game goes on until it doesn’t
Godfrey Cuotto, a student at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, was riding home on a crowded bus when a man reached for his hand. The man, Robert, is deaf and has cerebral palsy. He shook Godfrey's hand and simply kept holding it.
In plain words, a young man let a stranger with special needs hold on to him for about 30 minutes. Robert put an arm around him, praised him and even kissed his hands. Godfrey stayed calm the whole ride.

I swear SOMETHING broke in society after 2020 and nobody wants to talk about it.
And I’m not talking about masks, lockdowns, or COVID. I mean the FEELING of life.
Everything reopened. We went back to work. Restaurants filled up. Events came back. But somehow life still feels… different.
Years disappear faster. People feel more disconnected. Everything feels more expensive, stressful & rushed.
And somehow we’re all constantly exhausted. I can’t even explain exactly what we lost. I just know life before 2020 felt more ALIVE.
Tell me I’m not the only one who feels this.
