(1/x) Performing ultrasound in zero gravity is harder than in the ICU... Here's what we learned from studying AI ultrasound in zero gravity trying to detect celestial dust related lung injury 🌙🚀 A 🧵 Made possible by funding from @csa_asc

The @westernsono Critical Care Ultrasound fellowship has openings starting in the new year. Do you want to join the wall of fame of those who have graduated from our elite training in resus POCUS and TEE? westernsono.ca/learn/critica…
Interested in coming to Canada and doing a critical care ultrasound fellowship @westernsono ? We would love to have you. Shoot me a DM and we can chat more! Highlights: - 6 months - 1 year (preferred 1 yr) - any training background invited to apply - supervised by @arntfield @john_basmaji and myself - tons of resus / critical care TEE exposure - ++ research opportunities (including the ability to focus this as a research fellowship) --> we are running observational + RCTs in ultrasound I completed this fellowship a while ago and can attest first hand how great it is (over 25 graduated fellows over the past decade). We would love to have you. Pinging some previous fellows too in case they want to highlight their experience: @KiranRikhraj @katiewiskar @HansClausdorff @DCBrotherston @LintnerRivera @msattin4 #medtwitter #foamed #pocus

THIS all day long. @KiranRikhraj has spent 9 months with us and will be giving her experience and perspective to the world for free - stay tuned for more great stuff from her like this.
While nearing the end of the incredible Critical Care US fellowship run by @arntfield, I was inspired to create my first ever screencast, demonstrating the power of echo hemodynamics. Please give it a watch: youtube.com/watch?v=uHPG2XtD… #POCUS #hemodynamics #CardioTwitter #echofirst

If there is one #medtech team in the #ultrasound space to follow in 2024, its @DeepBreatheInc 🔊🫁🚀 @DeepBreatheInc is using machine learning to diagnose pulmonary pathology in real time at the bedside! Thankful to collaborate and research with such a great team! @derwuk @arntfield @westernsono #pocus #innovation #medtwitter
As an AI solutions provider in a specialized area of lung ultrasound, it can be a challenge to convey the scale and reach of the problems our team is solving. Our latest video invites you to better understand how we are transforming respiratory imaging! #medtech #ai #ultrasound

Short + direct summary of our take on the value of TEE in contemporary critical care practice. Give it a read...if only for the hyperbolic opening line : )
Should critical care TEE become a core diagnostic skill for intensivists? Check out our editorial here: authors.elsevier.com/c/1gYh-… @journal_CHEST Thanks to @arntfield & Craig Ainsworth. #foamed #pocus #foamus

Rich countries in the Northern hemisphere are likely at peak vaccine-immunisation. We might get better drugs, but more effective vaccines are unlikely in the short term. It's spring and we're facing a relatively 'mild' variant. Either we resume 'normal' now, or we don't, ever.

Ultrasound = GPS for the intensivist.
A series of IN the trenches, DOWN & dirty, TRULY point-of-care studies in a polytrauma: 20s👱‍♂️ MVC ➕FAST, splenectomy overnight. Panscan: SDH, SAH, R PTX AM team arrives. Receiving MTP🩸 Few minutes for a quick #TEE before being wheeled down for repeat CT head

Lung ultrasound via TEE: may sound like a #POCUS party trick, however in our routine ICU use we find -offers crucial answers not available on routine LUS -easy add-on to critical care TEE for 1-stop shop for cardio/pulm failure -++ useful at lung bases link.springer.com/article/10…

"Canada’s per-capita rates of covid-19 are now higher than the UK and US" Important and highly readable piece for my medical and non-medical Canadian friends and colleagues. Watch out for the maple syrup pun buried in there. @docpgb

ICU physician here. This week I -treated dozens with COVID -saw our ICU add 25% capacity -planned for worst case scenario (triage) Despite this, I agree with the masses that the new outdoor ON restrictions are: -unscientific -antithetical to wellness on a population level

Hospitals have been full since I started medical training in 2004. Out of 33 OECD countries, Canada comes in 31st place for hospital beds per capita. I will not surrender my human rights to the health care mis-managers who bungled this for the last 20 years.

For those curious about the critical care echo exam process with the NBE and the certification pathway @Novaleda has helped construct the definitive early story here. Worth a read if you’re interested in echo in resus (or taking the exam!). @NBE_96

Could there be digital biomarkers in lung ultrasound images that cannot be seen by the human eye? Could this allow AI to make a bedside diagnosis > > a trained physician? It is looking that way. bmjopen.bmj.com/content/11/3… #POCUS #AI @SchulichMedDent @LHSCCanada @lawsonresearch

Great term: "Hygiene Theater". Masks will be around for a while but how do we move on from the pointless, obsessive and costly surface cleaning?
“If surface transmission happened, it would require touching a newly contaminated surface, then very quickly touching your eyes, nose, or mouth without washing your hands.” @DKThomp pours cold water, mixed with a little sanitizer, on surface transmission: theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…
