As the 2026 World Cup nears its climax, we can all agree that the standard of football on display has been breathtaking. Yet off the pitch, a series of incidents involving players, officials, journalists and supporters has cast a shadow over this year’s tournament. Getting déjà vu? This is not the first time controversy has surrounded this global tournament. When Qatar hosted the World Cup four years ago, there were concerns raised around freedom of expression and the appalling exploitation of workers, some of whom had died while building the tournament’s infrastructure. The Times dubbed it “the most controversial World Cup ever.” Front pages and social media feeds were flooded with discussions about Qatar’s hosting of such a prestigious event. The German national team made global headlines by covering their mouths before their opening match in protest. The message seemed clear and cogent enough. Host nations should expect to be held to the highest standards. Alas, this year has not lived up to those standards. Intriguingly though, it has failed to garner comparable or arguably sufficient outrage. In fact, I would hazard a guess that many of those watching the games would not be aware of the succession of troubling incidents that have unfolded.

Time and again, those whose eyes are green with envy at the success Ahmadi Muslims have achieved around the world lash out, attacking the individual achievements of Ahmadis and seeking to discredit them. Dr Salam’s works were original and independent. He played a crucial role in the development of particle physics and there can be no doubt that he indeed deserved the Nobel Prize. Moreover, it is evident that scientific theories and ideas evolve with time and include the efforts of many, and this is what must be considered before crafting any conspiracy theories. As far as the importance of his works in the field of particle physics is concerned, the following words from Abigail Beall – a freelance science journalist who has a master’s degree in Science Journalism – would be enough to summarise: “In 1979, Pakistani scientist Abdus Salam won the Nobel Prize for physics. His life’s work was key to defining a theory of particle physics still used today, and it laid the groundwork for the 2012 discovery of the Higgs boson – the particle responsible for giving all other particles mass.” Tap on the link in bio to read the full story 👆

The seal of John Hugh Smyth Pigott, now housed at the Ahmadiyya Archive & Research Centre. Pigott’s claims to messiahship and divinity were directly addressed by Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. He warned Pigott that he should refrain from claiming divinity or he would be doomed to a horrible decline and end. In time, Pigott’s fate was sealed, and his final years were marked by mental, physical and social decline.

The Blessings of Allah Upon the First Mosque in London The New York Times, in one of its pictorial features, reported on the construction of the Fazl Mosque – the first mosque to be built in London, then the capital of the British Empire. The photograph published by the newspaper shows Ahmadi missionary Hazrat Maulvi AR Dard (ra) leading a silent prayer before the excavation of the mosque began in September 1925.
