A really nice piece by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today highlighting some of the work we do at the CGCA. jsonline.com/story/news/2025…
Thank you Adam Mann, had a great time chatting with you for this interview!

A new image confirms that the M87 black hole is the kind predicted by Einstein's general theory of relativity. bit.ly/48BWPG3
New image of M87 is out! This is from the 2018 observations and shows that the ring is persistent over time!
The EHT has released new images of the M87* black hole from observations taken in April 2018. The brightness peak of the ring has shifted by about 30Âş compared to 2017, consistent with our theoretical understanding of variability from turbulent material around black holes.

Right: the newly released image of M87* using observations taken in 2018 with the first participation of the Greenland Telescope, showing a bright ring with peak brightness in the lower right, surrounding a dark region.

Selections from 2023: Sharpening Our Images of a Supermassive Black Hole
The first image of a supermassive black hole released in 2019 was far from the last, and new algorithms have brought the data into sharper focus. aasnova.org/2023/12/18/selec…
George Wong and I built a DIY radio telescope in my garage and saw the 21 cm hydrogen line from the galaxy! Lots of work, but a lot of fun. ias.edu/news/advancing-eht-i…
This November, astrophysicists from across the world visited @the_IAS for a workshop focused on improving present understanding of observations from @ehtelescope. The organizers also hosted an observing night, featuring a home-made radio telescope. More: ias.edu/news/advancing-eht-i…
For those of you at the virtual @APSphysics meeting, I will be giving a talk at around 10:12 am EST in the EHT session (LL03:3). This talk will include an introduction to the PRIMO algorithm and the recent results as well as a summary of testing gravity results.
My collaborator and co-author of the PRIMO result @TodLauer wrote a nice thread explaining in more detail what PRIMO does.

So excited to finally share that our paper presenting a new image of M87 is out! See press release here: ias.edu/news/sharper-look-m8… paper here: iopscience.iop.org/article/1…
The new image of M87 was generated by PRIMO, our new machine learning algorithm (see PRIMO paper here iopscience.iop.org/article/1…). @TodLauer @feryal_ozel
The team also included @DimitriosPSALT1, sorry I wasn’t able to find your tag this morning!

🆕BLACK HOLE GETS NEW LOOK WITH MACHINE LEARNING. A team led by IAS Member Lia Medeiros (@astronolia) has produced a groundbreaking new image of the M87 black hole, achieving, for the first time, the full resolution of the @ehtelescope. Read more: ias.edu/news/sharper-look-m8…

The EHT uses an array of telescopes spread around the world, but since we cannot cover the whole world in telescopes, there are gaps in our data. PRIMO uses machine learning trained on a large data set of simulations to fill in the gaps in our data where we don't have telescopes.
So proud of my student’s first paper which appeared on the arXiv today. Aniket has developed Mahakala, a new radiative ray-tracing algorithm for arbitrary space times. @AniketS29955381 arxiv.org/abs/2304.03804
