Not sure there is a better snake to celebrate the day. This individual exhibits a little more orange than is normally found in the Calico False Coral Snake (Oxyrhopus vanidicus), also known as the "Brazilian Calico Snake." Photographed in Loreto, Peru. Happy Halloween!!

🚨HUMILIATING: After Trump canceled his remaining rallies, Kasie Hunt says a top Republican told CNN, “Thank God. He hasn’t moved the needle anywhere.” Yikes.
Trump was reportedly so furious about the coverage that he brought the rallies back. He’s not going to like this.

SHOWERS RETURN: For most of Alabama, the least meaningful rain was on October 10, when Hurricane Isaias moved through the state.
The long dry spell ends today as showers return to the state. The rain won't be widespread or heavy, but just know there could be some light rain at times through the evening hours if you have something planned outdoors. Today's high will be in the 70s.
Rain will be more widespread tonight into part of the day tomorrow, but tomorrow still won't be a washout. Temperatures hold in the 60s over the northern half of the state. Rain amounts over the weekend will be generally 1/2 inch or less for most places.
THE WEEK AHEAD: Monday and Tuesday will be generally dry, but showers will increase Tuesday night ahead of an upper trough/surface front.
Rain and storms are likely Wednesday. This is a dynamic system, and some surface based instability will be available. For now it looks like the greatest risk of strong to severe storms will be over South Alabama, but we won't be able to be really specific until Monday (after the weekend system passes). Rain amounts will be in the 1-2 inch range with locally heavier amounts.
The weather looks dry and seasonal for the end of the week and the following weekend (November 7-8).

This Fossil Friday, meet the Museum’s mummified hadrosaur—one of the most complete pieces of Mesozoic dinosaur remains ever found! This fossil provides a rare glimpse at dino skin. Like the skin of modern birds, this duck-bill's skin was marked by bumps called tubercles.

New study finds the infamously confounding Romualdo pterosaur Cearadactylus (whose holotype skull got majorly tampered with) to be synonymous with Brasileodactylus (named from a jaw tip), and that it actually had a rostral crest based on another specimen.

Torque is the quiet authority that turns force into rotation.
A force applied along a lever arm creates a twist equal to r × F. Its magnitude is r F sin θ — largest when the force strikes perpendicular to the arm (sin 90° = 1), vanishing entirely when the force and arm line up (sin 0° = 0). The perpendicular distance from the axis to the line of action is what actually multiplies the force into turning power.
Direction follows the right-hand rule: curl your fingers in the sense of rotation and your thumb points the way the torque vector stands.
What looks like simple pushing is geometry deciding whether the world spins.
