From her friend: My wonderful, spirited friend Vanessa Dougnac, 54, the longest serving foreign correspondent in India, until the time she was forced to leave her beloved home & friends in February 2024, passed away early on Monday morning in Paris after her josh-filled battle with cancer.
Today there is a large Vanessa-sized hole in all of us who knew and love her and in every place she travelled to across India and the neighbouring South Asian region.
We are heart-broken.
Please share the news in all groups where you think people may have known and met her.
No one who did would've forgotten her energy, her curiosity and her enthusiastic Hindi.

My little bit: Vanessa was a wonderful person. She was married to an Indian citizen. This government was particularly nasty towards by forcing her to leave the country - the ostensible reason was visa issues but the real reason was her bold and forthright reportage. RIP Vanessa.

I contend that wealth acquired through alleged wrongdoing does not confer credibility or reputation.

Can we not just scrap the SIR
As the Election Commission launches a special drive in 20 states to bring back voters “left out” in the SIR, its officers are staring at a unique problem: persuading lakhs, possibly crores, of people to fill Form 6, the “Application Form for New Voters,” which asks them to declare they are applying “for the first time.”
Form 6 is the right route back, and officials say signing it invites no legal action. But people who’ve voted for decades balk at calling themselves new, and many believe the declaration is false.
Against that backdrop, Maharashtra’s CEO has proposed a fix: drop “New Voters” from the title, and let the deleted say they were enrolled before and cite their old EPIC number.

The draft roll for UP’s SIR was published on January 6. Within hours, the BJP’s state leadership had set a target for its booth workers. The law requires every claim and objection to be made public. For 16.18 lakh Form 6 additions, it was not.
