Macchi Bhavan of the Nawabs of Awadh was built upon a much older fort complex site called Qila Lakhna built by Lakhan Ahir.
Macchi Bhawan which was destroyed in 1857 mutiny was more than 400 years old and Kila Lakhna was even older. Today KGMU Lucknow stands at parts of this site

The reason Gujarati Ahirs could preserve such traditions was because Gujarat is on the periphery of India (Saurashtra literally surrounded by sea on 3 sides). Ahirs of rest of India should see and and learn how mainstream, mainland Hindu influence corrupts your culture.
Indus belt was also a weakzone of orthodox H'ism for a large part of history. Hence, the tribal culture survided. Be it in their dresses or their embroidery you name it. It's the same with many other tribal groups in Gujarat.
The language firewall in the modern day too makes sure they don't consume a lot of bageshwar type content.
