Visited @NWSOmaha for a briefing on the suspension of weather balloon launches. Information from balloon launches in Nebraska is critical to developing forecasts locally and in other regions. I'm working on this issue, so that balloons are back in the air soon. #newx

Launched the 12Z weather balloon this morning (bottom dot at around 5K ft) with a high altitude balloon shown above it in the photo around 60K ft). There was another one in the distant west and doing a bit of math, determined it was about 26 miles away from us at OAX.

Absolutely wild. All of this in the eye, in which we circled for some time to deploy the UAS (uncrewed aerial system). A high end Cat 4 storm. Nearly Cat 5. All of this at 8,000 feet above the ocean. I’m glad we only did one pass.

After a long day of dirty work in the heat, these kiddos showed up to cheer on their little brother at his last home games for the season.

Still upset over this :( To reiterate, this was a national NWS issue and not something within the control of NWS Omaha/Des Moines. I am sick that the local offices had to deal with this and what implications it may have had for those in the path of the tornadoes yesterday.

Today I installed a Turbulence Indicator (it's a dropsonde ribbon wrapped around a dropsonde cap and tied to the ceiling) to try to better illustrate the bouncing around. I think it works, personally. #Laura was a hurricane by this point but I hadn't updated the wall. #FlyNOAA

Grand Island airport (KGRI) just measured 2.04" of rain in the past hour! Not only is this almost as much as the entire month of July before today (2.14"), but it is the biggest daily rainfall there since 2.72" back on May 21st. #NEwx

Every morning, I rise and hoist my American flag on my balcony. Old Glory serves as a welcome reminder that we're always striving to become a more perfect union. Today and every day, let us remember all the men and women who've fought valiantly to defend it. #flagday2020

Time lapse from @KCRG_FirstAlert webcam in Iowa City showing epic amounts of convection, tons of great cloud details, back-shear anvil poof, and a moon rising! Will finalize something to youtube later once the light ends! Been a while since I got this good of a lapse. #iawx
