I'm exhausted by respectability politics in Muslim art. We should be able to tell whatever stories we want however we want without having to bind ourselves into someone else's pietistic straitjacket. Moreover, we should be free to make art that reflects our diverse cultures. American Islam is distinctly cultured even from Canadian Islam. This film reflects the fullness of that experience.
