One last story for Christmas - in which Paddington meets @lucypgeridoc and his ailing Aunt receives some good advice. peteaird.org/2022/12/17/padd…
Because dying laughing wouldn’t be a bad way to go…

Congratulations to Warwickshire for coming out top in this year’s County Championship. But here is a piece that, though written for supporters @SomersetCCC might just hit a chord for any who think county cricket matters.

Thank you @thetimes
Life has many stresses but
Of one now I’m relieved,
Because this week my paper has
Provided all I need.
So with these broad bean recipes
Must I this summer fix,
A dish for legume lovers I
Will have a choice of six.
Because the end doesn’t justify the means…

Wishing everyone @SomersetCCC the very best of days at T20 Finals Day…

Why county cricket matters - more, perhaps, than even I realised.

A few words on…I’m sorry, what was I saying, oh yes…on attending to our inattention.

The Hormuz Strait’s a waterway for oil tankers but,
The U.S. says it’s open whilst Iran says it is shut.
And so it seems the only way to know who’s telling lies is,
By filling up your car with fuel and noting what the price is!

For many years, those big billed birds,
Found in St James Park,
Alas, they could not reproduce,
It seemed they’d lost the spark.
But now they’ve come together,
And succeeded in their plan,
To prove that whilst some pelican’t,
There’s some that pelican!

FOR THOSE ALREADY TIRED OF THE WORLD CUP
Late night football is a game
Of two halves it is said,
Which means one’s played whilst you’re awake,
The other whilst you’re in bed.
Well worth a read…peteaird.org/2026/05/14/a-no…

Some thoughts having watched ‘Sam and Ade go birding’ peteaird.org/2026/05/02/on-c…
This week I listened to ‘Everything’s fake and nobody cares’, watched ‘Sam and Ade go birding’ and saw how Ade likes robins, and learnt of a school whose tagline is disturbingly ‘Excellence is only the beginning’.
I’d only recommend two of the three.

Today I did something pointless. And all the more so perhaps, given how cold it was, and with the grey skies overhead constantly threatening rain…

So make friends - not war.
