STAKEHOLDERS COMMIT TO STRONGER SICKLE CELL CARE IN LANGO
Last week at the Lango Regional Sickle Cell Stakeholders Summit convened by the @MinofHealthUG, partners renewed commitments to strengthen screening, treatment and care for SCD.
With rates estimated at 20–23% in Lango, coordinated action is urgent.

Uganda has kicked off the Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign, running from 1–5 October 2026. The campaign was launched by Hon @CHRISBARYOMUNS1 at Wakiso HC IV.
Baylor Foundation Uganda is supporting the @MinofHealthUG that is partnering with @gavi, @WHO, @UNICEFUganda, @StateDept, @CDCgov and other IPs to provide technical assistance across 50 supported districts, including direct management of campaign funds in selected districts in Fort Portal (2), Hoima (7) and Mbale (3) regions.
The campaign aims to reach children who may have missed previous vaccination opportunities and complements routine immunization services.
No child should be left behind.

Butebo and Budaka district leaders have commended Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) for strengthening the link between communities and health facilities.
They also thanked the U.S. @StateDept for its investment in training CHEWs in partnership with @MinofHealthUG and @bayloruganda , and pledged continued supervision and accountability during deployment.

UPDATE: The government has rolled out a five-day nationwide measles immunisation campaign targeting about 7 million children aged 9 months to 3 years across Uganda. The campaign will run from October 1 to October 5. According to the Ministry of Health, by 2025, more than 64% of reported measles cases were among children who had not received any measles-rubella (MR) vaccination, while only 3% had received at least two doses. Micheal Baganizi, the Assistant Commissioner for Vaccines and Immunisation at the Ministry of Health, has called for public compliance, noting that the campaign will cover schools and refugee communities.

Today, U.S. @CDCgov Uganda Country Director Dr Mary Adetinuke Boyd,our ED @DKiragga,@MinofHealthUG /@cphluganda, @NakasekeG & Hospital officials commissioned the refurbished Nakaseke General Hospital Laboratory & launched it as a referral hub serving 15 health facilities.
The refurbishment, funded by the U.S. Government through CDC/PEPFAR in partnership with @bayloruganda, is expected to strengthen timely and reliable diagnostic services for HIV, TB, maternal and child health, cervical cancer screening and other conditions.
