🚨Deniz Undav on his altercation with Barış Yılmaz after his foul on Führich during Galatasaray’s 2-0 win over Stuttgart:
🗣️ Deniz Undav: Look, I expected a difficult atmosphere in Istanbul. I knew the fans would be loud, I knew Galatasaray would be aggressive, but what happened on that pitch was something else.
There is being competitive, and then there is putting another player’s safety at risk. I have no problem with hard tackles. This is football, not a friendly training session. But there has to be a limit.
When Barış went into Führich like that, I honestly couldn’t understand what he was thinking. It was unnecessary, reckless and dangerous. I went over to him and asked if he was trying to end the guy’s career.
And do you know what he said to me? He looked at me and said, “What do you think you can do? This is my stadium. This is my home.”
I was honestly disgusted. What does playing at home have to do with the safety of another human being? Since when does your stadium give you permission to behave like that?
I don’t care how many supporters are behind you. I don’t care how intimidating the atmosphere is. You don’t get to threaten people because you’re playing in front of your own fans.
We’re talking about another footballer, someone who has a family and people waiting for him at home. You cannot go into challenges like that and then act like nothing happened.
We’ve already seen enough painful moments in football. We’re still mourning Jesús de Miguel, and yet some players behave as if another person’s life is just part of the game.
That’s what makes me angry. You can fight for your team, you can be aggressive, you can tackle hard, but you cannot deliberately put someone in danger and expect everyone to keep quiet.
And the worst part is that if I had reacted physically, the headlines would have been about Deniz Undav losing his temper. Nobody would be discussing the challenge that started everything.
That’s how these situations get twisted. The player who speaks up becomes the problem, while the player who makes the dangerous challenge walks away like he’s done nothing wrong.
Barış needs to understand that football is bigger than his ego. Being passionate doesn’t mean you have to be reckless, and being at home doesn’t make you untouchable.
Galatasaray won 2-0, congratulations to them. They can celebrate their victory, but don’t expect me to applaud behaviour that puts another player’s safety at risk.
I’d rather lose a football match with my head held high than win one by making another player fear for his career.
And honestly, if you need to intimidate someone with your stadium, your supporters and threats, perhaps you should question whether your football is doing enough talking.

😊 Sayın Galatasaray taraftarları, lütfen sahadan ayrılırken çöplerinizi toplamayı unutmayın.
