The OPPA extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and classmates of the Durham Regional Police Service Constable in Training who tragically lost their life. Our thoughts are also with the injured Constable in Training, their loved ones, and all those affected by this devastating incident during this incredibly difficult time.
Today, the Durham Regional Police Service is mourning a profound loss following a tragic motor vehicle collision near the Ontario Police College involving two Constables in Training (CIT) who were travelling to training.
It is with deep sadness that I share that one CIT has lost their life, while the other remains in life-threatening condition.
During this difficult time, our focus is on supporting the families of our CIT's, as well as their classmates, instructors, friends, and members of our Service who are grieving this tragic loss. We will continue to ensure they receive the care and support they need.
We ask that the public respect the privacy of the families and all those affected as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy, and as notifications continue.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police, and we will not be providing any further details at this time.

Our policing family is once again facing the unthinkable. Today, we stand united with the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) after one of their officers was killed, and another officer was seriously injured while protecting their community.
Since June 9, our policing community has been confronted with unprecedented and deeply troubling violence. On June 9, OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali was struck and killed while on duty in Hearst. Only two days later, on June 11, Toronto Police Service Constable Marc Pinizzotto was shot and killed while executing a warrant. Yesterday, a Peel Regional Police officer was shot at in Mississauga, and overnight, two RCMP officers were seriously injured during a shooting in Melville, Saskatchewan. Now, we are mourning yet another fallen officer in Montreal.
On behalf of the OPP, I extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of these fallen heroes. Their loss is immeasurable, and we will ensure their service and sacrifice are never forgotten.
Our officers continue to stand in our communities, protecting the public in the face of danger, and responding with courage, professionalism and unwavering commitment. But they cannot, and should not, stand alone. They need the full support of the justice and social systems, our partners and all Canadians. We owe it to every officer we have lost — and every officer who continues to serve — to do everything in our power to protect them.
Today, we remember. We stand together. And we remain resolute in our mission to keep communities safe.
Our thoughts are with the colleagues, family and friends of the officer murdered in Montreal today. Our thoughts are also with the injured officer. These incidents need to stop.
Our thoughts are with the officers in Melville who were shot in the line of duty. This incident is a stark reminder of the risks officers take to protect their communities. Our best wishes for a full and quick recovery.
To our amazing fathers and father figures who balance the demands of the badge with the responsibilities of fatherhood, thank you for your commitment, sacrifice, and leadership. Your service extends beyond the uniform, shaping lives at home and making a difference every day.
Our hearts are with our colleagues in Toronto, as well as the friends and family of Cst. Pinizzotto.
A statement from President @TPACampbell:
It is with heartbreaking sadness today that we confirm the line-of-duty death of @TorontoPolice Constable Marc Pinizzotto.
A valued member of our elite Emergency Task Force, our brave brother was fatally shot early this morning during a high-risk takedown.
The TPA has been on site all morning with Chief Demkiw and other members of the TPS, supporting Marc’s devastated family and colleagues.
Details of how this tragic incident unfolded, as well as any arrangements, will be available in the coming days.
In the meantime, I want to ask everyone for their support. When most people were safely at home in bed, this officer left his family to make this city safer.
Our members put their lives on the line every day. It is a devastating tragedy that Marc did not return home to his family today.
Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of Cst. Bali.
