Anyway, I spent the last 25 days building an experimental OS with AI coding agents.
x86-64, isolated processes, capabilities, persistent storage, networking, ssh. ARM64 and SMP experiments, too.
RC1 and source went up this weekend: absd.dev
You know, the best thing I could have learned from working with ATProto is that I don't want to keep subsidizing an ecosystem whose social priorities increasingly diverge from mine.
Actually, now that I think about it, he more we optimize systems for machine legibility, the more likely we are to mistake the legible portion of reality for reality itself. That's probably worse.
A generation learned to recognize the emperor's new clothes. Now some of them are having trouble recognizing an emperor who's wearing an ugly but entirely functional pair of pants.
You know, we've spent decades developing increasingly sophisticated ways to connect people, only to mostly discover that an awful lot of them would prefer increasingly sophisticated ways to avoid encountering anyone who might complicate their worldview.
The better we become at making engineering legible to machines, the more important it becomes to preserve ways of discovering what the machines cannot see.
Lord I am sick of talking about things, or worse, talking about talking about things. That's all you get over on blue twitter. At least here on classic, people are either entertainingly insane or building shit. Or both.
I always forget this place is mostly pay-to-play now, and it’s like, I do like playing, but I’m not really so keen on paying
One variable to rule them all, one scope to find them, one request to bring them all, and in the globals bind them.

I *hate* performing. I just want to *do things*. Everyone here says "you can just do things", and you can, but it don't pay the bills or get people looking at what you've done.
I posted this on the other place and I think like four or five people liked that post, so maybe if two or three people like here, I can get past counting on one hand. Not that it needs affirmation. It's an OS.
I'll probably keep working on it, because I think it's neat.
The inescapable tension between wanting people to look at what you've built and not wanting to call attention to one's self by using social media.
