How did the "vishwas" politics around PM Modi that led to a big 2019 BJP win falter in 2024? I believe it has to do with media diversification & adaptation by state-level leaders (continuing w Instagram & CJP) Some thoughts in a volume by @IqbalSevea: worldscientific.com/doi/10.1…

With the 2026 midterms out of the way, we can now all focus on what will obviously be the central issue of 2028's presidential primaries: America's South Asia policy. (not serious)

indian americans have been thrust into the spotlight this election cycle. how do they plan to vote? we have new data ahead of midterms📈 first, all the gains republicans made in 2024 seem to have disappeared. indian american support for republicans is the lowest we’ve recorded

Huge respect to the organizers, activists and voters of Brazil and Serbia. These results are due to so much work and they give us so much hope. There is nothing inevitable about the far right.

My column for @FT: In contrast to many established democracies, where voter registration has historically been dependent on individual initiative, in India the state assumed the burden. That reversal is at the heart of a growing political confrontation giftarticle.ft.com/giftartic…

When new Nobel laureate Robert Hall sent the first draft of his Nobel-winning paper to his MIT classmate, the legendary Stanley Fischer, Fischer thought it was so crazy that he "wrote back to ask what psychoactive substance was affecting" Hall as he wrote. – at Redwood City, CA

This is a super piece by Neelanjan - if you want to understand how corporate controlled capitalism affects us all. I hope many more readers see this. Pair it with Ha-Joon Chang interview where he called "enclave growth" (a diff context tho) frontline.thehindu.com/inter…

Til the INDIA bloc solve the logical discrepancy issue & the pending tribunal cases in Bengal which concern around 22 lakh genuine voters, their legal or political battle will remained unsuccessful against CEC. Real test is not Delhi or other states for SIR, but West Bengal!

A journalist covering socio-economic or political issues not knowing Jean is akin to a sports journalist not knowing Sachin Tendulkar. The journo's hubris of not knowing was worse than not knowing. But you should know! Yet you deny giving due credit to Jean's work. That's a pity!

Do not for a minute assume it was just an ignorant question. This was done deliberately to drown out Jean Dreze's voice and to minimise who he is so his protest seems insignificant. Those who don't know how nefarious newsrooms work might mistake this to be a mistake. It's a strategy.
A reporter is asking Jean Drèze “Bhaisaab aap ho kaun?” A damning indictment of how low Indian media has fallen.

Last time I checked the constitution guarantees the right to movement and free assembly. And the reports are all of people detained while assembling peacefully. No weapons or riot gear etc. The last time someone cracked down like this on peaceful assembly was during the Emergency. These are dictatorial and unconstitutional actions irrespective of which side of the political spectrum you belong to.

Jean Drèze was offered freedom after 4 hours in detention. He refused to leave w/o his fellow detainees, many poor Muslims. After 11 hours, police relented. They walked out together Oh, and when shown the video of a journalist asking who he was, he laughed: “That was hilarious" Don't miss this story from @khanthefatima 1/2 #DelhiProtest
