everybody is citing the LOTR trilogy as a counter which should just be so obvious you wouldn't even dare making this argument. also made for 12 year olds, but actually excellent. you have the perfect film trilogy to center for this horrendous worldview and you whiffed it entirely
Yeah I mean I pretty much expect them to keep the mechanic as is, they could remove combinations I guess... But the entire point of it beyond its cool factor and novelty is that it effectively fits more than 3 abilities in just 3 buttons, it's already perfectly elegant.
But if the argument is on "x had a better library than y, y is literally a goldmine" then I feel like it's fair game to jokingly point out how much trash was produced for it. And I'm some one that will play a game that I know is bad, but that's how I see it.
most outrageous timesink in hgss is like, having to play the game for a total of 3 hours before getting the next safari zone challenge. it doesn't scream "unending dedication" to me, unless checking in on your tomodachi life characters for 30 minutes every morning is dedication.
they smoothed out these time mechanics in later pokemon entries because there are some problems with the implementation in johto especially concerning time of day, but it's always a balance of having enough to do without having too much to do.

getting hit by an Itachi 2X combo is a rite of passage.
I think Itachi is one of the more fun (and dare I say fair?) top tier characters to fight against, once you understand the matchup. Until then though, you won't have a clue what to do.
