It’s #FossilFriday! Let’s swim back in time some 85 million years ago to the Late Cretaceous to meet Xiphactinus, a gigantic predatory fish. This species, which could reach lengths of 17 feet (5.2 meters), was capable of swallowing a 6-foot- (2-meter-) fish whole!
Some great news today! Every bit of protection helps.

I've loved watching these little eagles grow into their wings and begin their journey. It's incredible to see them leave the nest.
Huge thanks to Paul Kolnik and the @USFWSNCTC Eagle Cam for giving us all a window to see them take flight.
Have you been hiking at Stagecoach Prairie recently? Just a few weeks after we conducted a prescribed burn on the front 40 acres, this is the green scene that now greets visitors.

As baby birds learn to fly, they sometimes fall to the ground. If you find one, leave it be! We found this cliff swallow fledgling resting for awhile before it flew away. Most "abandoned” baby birds are actually healthy and will recover in time.
