She was a single parent and it is not an exaggeration to say but for the union she was able to provide me with opportunities many didn’t have. Appreciating that union membership played such an important role in both her life and mine, I have always considered the workers’ right to union representation as a fundamental right, just as shelter should be a fundamental right. Compass has been fighting for clients’ fundamental right of shelter for years. The staff now wants to exercise their fundamental right to join a union, the OPEIU, Local 29. I believe that a unionized workplace is a more productive and rewarding place, and that benefits all: staff, clients and management.”
