Why do we keep telling people, particularly women, that children=fulfilment? It doesn’t. Parenting is relentless and at times fucking awful. Giving your life meaning should not be a burden on your child’s back. Love your kids, live a full life and encourage them to do the same.
Apparently a visit to #secretlab was essential while we were in Singapore…and then the chair arrived…
Things the “young people” don’t seem to understand (aka stuff that made me feel old yesterday):
- what the “briiing briing” noise means
- what a LAN party is
- jeans that are not cropped at the ankle
Happy days! Very grateful to a wonderful friend who found this circa 1920 edition of Mrs Beeton’s in a secondhand bookshop. Is there anything better than an old book?
7-8am on a school day when you have 2 kids - *perfect* time for your husband to do a video call from the home office.
And hello, here comes the council, unannounced, with a truck (which means it is the dog’s duty to bark) to plant a tree on the verge…
Am reading late 19th/early 20th century marriage and divorce records. They don’t mince words. “Reason for divorce: hatred”
Full marks to the next door neighbour who only giggled a little bit when he came to rescue me from the pool pump enclosure. Zero marks for the person (me) who failed to specify a hole to reach a hand through to open the latch from the inside.
Sitting with this today, and thinking about whose names are told, and whose tragedies are simply colour for other people’s stories. It is an impressive piece of writing, for what it is worth. cdn.theatlantic.com/media/ar…
Researching my husband’s family tree: wading through Burke’s landed gentry/commoners.
Mine: scrolling through endless lists of victims of Soviet political repression.
Sometimes it just hits different.
A person who may have want for legal services seen talking to a lawyer. (Not my favourite lawyer by any stretch, but nonetheless…) I am shocked. The outrage factory must really be looking for something to do.
I forgot to take a photo when they were fresh out the oven…I hope it is a happy and restful day for all.

MORTGAGORS. I’m just shouting into the abyss at this point.
Really missing my grandfather today. Maybe seeing my son in his soccer uniform has done this…regardless we are serving up tears this Friday evening.
I’ve been doing family history research and was surprised to see the amount of info available via naa.gov.au/ and trove.nla.gov.au even though my family are fairly recent immigrants. If you haven’t already it is worth taking a look at these free resources…
9yo says that “2023 DZ2” is a silly name for an asteroid and offers up “ouchy ouchy Dino brick” as an alternative.
Accidentally set up the home office too well and now Mr BB prefers to do teleconferences from home when he can. I’ve selflessly abandoned the housework and banished myself outside with a book. For his benefit, obviously.
I’m finally putting pieces together of the circumstances of my grandmother’s childhood and adolescence. She has only ever been willing to speak about it in tiny little crumbs. My research has now only raised more questions. Alzheimers has stolen the answers.
