Reading books may support brain health throughout life.
Reading for pleasure is associated with better cognitive function, improved psychological well-being, and potentially a lower risk of age-related cognitive decline.
In one cohort of older adults, those who read had a 35% lower risk of developing dementia.
Who is more likely to develop dementia: women or men?
Women have an approximately 23% higher incidence of dementia than men, and the global number of new cases could more than double by 2050.

We are witnessing an extraordinary acceleration in medical progress.
Nowhere is this more evident than in immunology and my own field, rheumatology.
Breakthroughs in biotechnology, laboratory medicine, molecular biology, and artificial intelligence are fundamentally transforming how we understand, diagnose, and treat diseases.
We are moving beyond simply controlling symptoms toward targeting the biological mechanisms that drive disease.
And what excites me most? We are only at the beginning. The next great revolution in medicine is already underway.

Seven workplace chemicals have been linked to Parkinson’s disease.
Occupational exposure to seven chemicals was associated with significantly higher odds of Parkinson’s disease. The more types of chemicals reported, the stronger the observed association.
The strongest associations were found for trichloroethylene (TCE), kerosene, and carbon tetrachloride. The adjusted odds ratios (aORs) were 1.73, 1.72, and 1.67, respectively, corresponding to approximately 67–73% higher odds of Parkinson’s disease.
The other four chemicals were mineral spirits (aOR 1.42), butanone (aOR 1.35), jet fuel (aOR 1.28), and toluene (aOR 1.27).
All seven associations remained statistically significant after correction for multiple comparisons.
Could vaccination against shingles reduce the risk of developing dementia? Why?
Shingles vaccination is associated with an approximately 20% lower risk of being diagnosed with dementia (the findings are promising but do not yet provide definitive evidence of causality).
Proposed mechanisms include reduced reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), decreased chronic inflammation, and modulation of the immune response (similar associations have also been observed in studies of vaccines against RSV, diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis).

🇩🇪 Nvidia's Jensen Huang CORNERED German Chancellor Merz on the old EU regulation playbook
"I've also heard you say that you want to find that balance between innovation and regulation.
There's nothing to regulate if the industry doesn't thrive."
Europe keeps reaching for the rulebook before the companies even get off the ground.

I still remember some fellow doctors laughing when I chose rheumatology.
“You’ll just prescribe steroids. You won’t really help anyone.”
I never forgot those words.
They were wrong.
Today, biologics are transforming lives. CAR-T is opening extraordinary possibilities. mRNA technologies and AI could take us even further.
What some dismissed as a specialty with little future may become one of the most exciting frontiers in medicine.
But our ultimate goal must go beyond controlling disease.
Remission is a milestone.
CURE is the mission.
And I want to help make it happen.
Everyone is racing to add AI to medicine.
I did the opposite.
I removed generative AI from RheumaNext v2.
Why? Clinical tools need transparent, reproducible logic—not convincing guesses.

Interesting finding: Lithium in drinking water and the risk of heart rhythm disorders in children.
Higher lithium concentrations in drinking water were associated with more frequent diagnoses of Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome in children, suggesting a potential environmental risk factor for cardiac conduction disorders.
He said it in English, loud and clear, so that European political correctness couldn’t distort or soften his message.
A decade later, what we’re witnessing in France is a disturbing reminder of just how right his warning was.
